Monkeys - A Short Movie About What We Are

Kinda destroys the idea of individuality. Demeaning the human race and putting the blame on "society". Basically all he does is bitch, give a damn solution, we all sit here and agree that some things are messed up, so what they hell are you gonna do about it?

I agree with gorgonheap. If all we are is monkeys than what should stop us from acting out on any one of our instincts at all?

Is the answer that we are EVOLVED monkeys? That still does not suffice. Being told I am nothing more than a monkey for 4 minutes does not do much for my self-esteem. I'd rather be created intentionally by a divine being.

I'm curious, what makes you think that you are entitled to a quick answer (like "a divine being did it")? That you deserve it because if not, it's not good for your self-esteem...

We deserve an explanation as much as a cockroach does.

Anyone who wants to believe he/she is a highly evolved monkey is welcome to do so. This is America, and we're allowed to believe whatever we want. It's no more scientific than intelligent design; it's not reproducible. Apes aren't still evolving into humans. There is no missing link. It's a fantastic belief system that many people have bought into, though. Almost as popular as religion.

But if a belief system could make you feel happy and valuable and loved instead of making you think you're part of a giant, biological mistake, why would you choose the latter?

One of my favorite shorts I have ever seen, and so true
Also in terms of evolution we didnt evolve from apes, they and us evolved from an even more basic primate. Some like to think that thousands of years ago we looked like chimps, no cause chimps didnt even look like chimps.

But yeah, we're apes not monkeys, great apes. But I guess the word ape doesn't hold the same gravitas as monkey. I do think humans hold themselves way too highly and it's part of a denial that's a mental sickness, together with denial of death and therefore belief in religion amongst other things.

Then again I'd rather compare humans by behaviour to sheep or cattle, as most are insanely boring and easily manipulated, monkeys however are pretty cool.

I find it utterly hilarious reading some of the posters that they are being EXACTLY what this video is trying to point out. The most important line in the whole short is: "Some of the monkeys think they have it all figured out". That line doesn't just apply to those who believe in God or to those who don't feel that we are "raping the planet". It also applies to you who believe the exact opposite. It makes you all just monkeys laughing at other monkeys for not knowing that they are monkeys.
