Minecart Interstate V3.0 [MineCraft]

From YouTube:
"After a lot of work, rendering, rerendering, re-re-rerendering, waiting, crashing, encoding, waiting, rendering, encoding, waiting, encoding, and waiting, It's done. The next version of the Interstate video thing. This took a lot of work to make it as smooth and flowing as it is."

Music: Life's Things by MindThings.
Textures: Brown and Bloom.

The texture pack I use is a bastarization between MixCraft and a few other texture packs. To me there is not one "perfect" texture mod as one with good landscape has crummy inventory icons and others being vice-versa. You have to do a bit of dicking around with the minecraft.jar file since there is no "easy" modding method at the moment... for textures at least. (Edit: Oops, hah I didnt notice it before thats the same sun/moon I use... ill have to give links to various texture packs later)

I hate these comments.

This is productive, it is a hobby, he completed a project that took a lot of motivation and determination. He did something that made him happy and probably made him feel quite proud. Not every damn thing in this world needs to cure cancer ffs.>> ^Tymbrwulf:

Other than cutting through in a straight line, what was so hard about that? The landscape looks procedurally constructed, and after a bit, the cart track lost a lot of embellishments.

Maybe you should read the video description next time

People can do a lot of different things that can make them happy/feel pride. This equates to level grinding in an MMORPG. Sure, you spent a lot of time, sure you "accomplished" something, but you never actually left your room, never actual did anything except sit at a computer for multiple hours and clicked a mouse/typed at a keyboard.

I don't see it as something to be "proud" of.

I also hate when people reduce things to the simplest common denominator to make a point. Your equality is like equating cricket and baseball as the same thing because you hit a ball with a bat.

Anyway, perhaps you can find more productive use of your time rather than passing judgement on people, when you waste your time watching internet videos and commenting about them. Of course when it happens to be the thing you enjoy wasting time on, the excuses start pouring out as to why it's some how more appropriate than what this guy did. Naturally I'm doing the same thing, minus the high horse.

The bottom line is, having hobbies and periods where we're not curing cancer is not a crime and we will all enjoy these periods differently, passing judgement on who does it the most productively, to me, is a ridiculously silly thing to do. Nobody works 24/7 and what people determine is a self-accomplishment to be proud of doesn't have to meet whatever arbitrary criteria you care to place on the word.

Holy CRAP, I know that took a shitton of work. Bravo! This game is rather addicting, but it needs to have.. I dunno.. more to do, or something. Maybe it needs a purpose. I'm not sure what it is, but after a while, you tend to kind of get tired of it. Still a great game though.. And this video...Wow.

Needs something to do? Build Rome...that should take a couple of days.

@yellowc

I'm fully aware of the hypocrisy of the argument I'm making here. Personally I would say there isn't much of a difference between baseball and cricket, they're both sports, each having fans of their own (some of which can also be over-the-top infatuated with their favorite team [which I also have an opinion on if you'd like to hear about it ]).

The argument I was trying to make is not against hobbies. I should have been more clear. What I'm attempting to convey is that while maybe you and I take a couple minutes commenting on this video, the person in said video could have taken hours/days/weeks to accomplish his goal, similarly I might add to the man who's built the Enterprise or the ALU (although the ALU is an interesting experiment on the functions of a computer-like program within the confines of another computer program).

IMHO I'd say this is where he crossed the line. If my hobbies would take this much time to complete for a feeling of "happiness" I would surely not have enough time during the day to get ANY work done.

I'm not gonna waste my own time judging what people do in their free time. Oh wait, Tymbrwolf is just like every other retard on the planet. Opinionated and ignorant. Your argument is invalid and quite pointless.

Stusays...

Jeez, he said productive not fun. Usually things that are productive aren't fun. You enjoy cutting your grass? You enjoy fixing shit around the house? You enjoy work? Except for a handful of people, no, you don't. He was saying the guy has skills and a dedication and if he put that towards something productive instead of fun, imagine what he could do. You people look for a reason to jump on someone's case instead of just reading what they wrote. Grow the fuck up.

Yes, imagine what could be accomplished if we all committed ourselves to being "productive" every waking moment. All this self-fulfillment and creative exploration contributes nothing to our society. In fact, I don't know why we're not just yoked to cubicles 24 hours a day. It would maximize our productivity for sure. In fact, you don't even need art and entertainment when you don't have free time to enjoy them so there's nothing lost there.

I propose that videosift be shut down immediately, as the time we spend here is in no way productive.

When I read comments such as these, I imagine what the author could have written if they'd been a positive person.

Also, upvote.

I am glad this person made the video, I really enjoyed it. The 300,000+ other viewers from Youtube probably liked it too.

We have not peeked over his shoulder while he fiddled with the game in his basement. This is the result of concept, design, "construction" and video-editing, with the purpose of sharing it with others to bring a little joy to the world. I believe he accomplished his goal.

There are plenty of folks here in Silicon Valley who live to do incredible things through their work, and who spend almost all their waking hours on it.
