I may have found athletes more inept than myself

It's completely unclear to me how this otherwise apparently charming rowing regatta could have devolved into such a series of disasters.

There's something slapstick about the level of chaos being generated here.

:13 - A boat straight up rows into a pier, knocking someone overboard
:21 - A boat is seemingly stuck on land
:40 - An aimlessly adrift boat gets in another's way, prompting angry mothers to yell "assholes!" and "you RUINED IT for them!"
1:00 - Two boats are just chilling in the middle of the course after they got in each other's way
1:00 to 1:40 - Apparently it takes a Herculean effort to disengage two boats
1:45 - Phew, they're finally disengaged
1:50 - OH GOD THEY DISENGAGED INTO THE PATH OF A THIRD BOAT!
2:10 - A kid gets clocked in the head by another boat's oar
2:27 - A boat has to slow down after realizing they're running into land
2:38 - They avoid the land, but run into what looks like a hanging orange trash bag
2:45 - Some guy sums up the race with an anguished, "oh no, again?!" as two boats run into each other

From Deadspin, the Gawker media blog but even then, worth it.

All kinds of *WTF right there
Maybe also some *terrible for whoever thought these rowers were 'ready for prime time'.

Wait; you mean you have had the special gift of actually attending this regatta? Or is that an ironic world weary statement about all regattas? Or ???
lol

But it's always like this...

Coxswains are typically chosen for size more so than anything else. I recall the crew team at my school went through a few because they kept crashing into bridges and damaging the none-too-cheap carbon fibre boats.

edit: Oh, also coxswaining (awesome verb, that) is apparently extremely difficult. Basically, all my knowledge of crew comes from a friend of mine who rowed and did pretty much nothing but bitch about the coxswain.

This reminds me of raiding in MMOs, and how it was so god damn hard to tell the raid to stop DPSing at a certain point or get everyone to move.
