Houston Cop To Rescuers-"We've Had Enough"

This Houston cop decided he's had enough of unregistered vehicles (like boats and military personnel carriers, and monster trucks) in his town rescuing people the police couldn't reach, so he stops and harasses, then unpleasantly tells this man who drove from Illinois with his swamp buggy to help the cop's flooded neighbors that it's time to go away, because this cop's had enough help.
I'm pretty sure the neighbors still under water still want him there.

From reddit post

Policeman: "You do not have any identification right? - Where are you from?"

Driver: "I'm from Elamari" (? not sure what town/city he actually says).

Policeman: "Okay, you're with this other group that's here right?"

Driver: "The other buggy like this?"

Policeman: "Yes."

Driver: "Yes I brought it with me..." - (interrupted)

Policeman: "Alright, listen. I appreciate that you're here. But we're done. I've got orders(?)"

Driver: "Alright."

Policeman: "Youre not to be operating this vehicle on the road."

Driver: "Alright."

Policeman: "You understand that?"

Driver: "Yes sir."

Policeman: "If I see you around here, like I told the other guy (i'll have your vehicle?) impounded. You're operating an unregistered motor vehicle. No insurance with this. I appreciate you guys came down here wanting to help today. Our orders are to come down (no idea what he says here) So go somewhere else today, get out of here. Okay?

Policeman: "Thanks for your help today."

Driver: "Next time don't yell."

Policeman: "Have a safe trip."

-- The rest is easily heard.

Maybe he has a point, but you don't start that conversation with "I need you to come down here [...] because I said so!"

Wow that escalated quickly which was no surprise to my black friend, but a cop calming down and letting someone drive off who doesn't have any ID did not compute on his operating system.

If he is "following orders", then the top brass needs to get their shit together. There's no reason they can't organize the volunteers and dispatch them so they know who/where they are and what areas have already been helped. But I guess when your town's underwater, fuck help from Yankees.

Part of me wishes the driver would have just said, "There's a nice way to do that". I can't speak for the officer, but on it's face the interaction is shitty. Maybe he's super stressed about his own stuff. Maybe he's upset about having to help others and no one to help him. Maybe he thinks his orders (if there are any) are really stupid and is at odds with his superiors.

Whatever the case, ultimately he ends up doing a poor job of representing his dept., the city, and cops in general. Hope he and others learn.

Tbf most of those vehicles aren't road legal.

but then most of those roads couldn't really said to be roads. So. Dunno.

In an emergency people helping people is a basic right. Impounding a vehicle and even arresting the owner serves no purpose then to feed the ego of law enforcement. How about working together and maybe even registering said vehicles with law enforcement and getting an ID for such emergencies. Hundreds of years of disasters and there seems to be a lack of communication and efficiency or even simple planning for things like this. I know emergency relief is a massive undertaking, but there are ways to go about it that includes people that are just trying to assist. There are more people in need then there are state and federal "professionals".

** "....Because I said So!!" obviously this officer is a father. Cracked up because my dad use to say the same thing when he wasn't being listened to or questioned.
