Gay Marriage = 9/11

Wow.

*TERRIBLE. *WTF. Gay marriage will lead to failed marriages? Then explain to me how Massachusetts has had legal gay marriage for five years now, and they remain DEAD LAST in divorce rate, actually decreasing in divorce rate since gay marriages were legalized. And those states who are the most anti-gay marriage have the highest divorce rates!!! Argh, I so hate it when people cite things as true when there is blatant proof to the contrary available for anyone and everyone to see!!! *bangsheadondesk

1:16, more abortion when there's gay marriage?

i'm not too sure how this works in the USA but, and this may come as a surprise, here in the netherlands it's kinda rare for same-sex couples (be they male-male or female-female) to produce children when they have sex. they do however here have the right to adopt children (i don't know how that is in california). Which for me seems like another (minor) reason to support gay marriage. (the only reason i can find for gays not being allowed to adopt is because other people would find it odd, but the only proper solution would seem to be to teach people being gay can be or is a natural part of human civilisation) I do see how this can be more of a problem in a religious country ( if the title 'married' has lots of faith-based implications) , and i don't have a stance on if there should be gay marriage in america, as long as they aren't discriminated against.

+ the 9/11 comparison just seems awfully wrong wrong wrong

Paul4Dirt, the California Supreme Court concluded marriage is a "fundamental right of free men," rather than a right that originates with the state, and in that sense, there seems to be a very good case that denying that right to marry constitutes discrimination.

In their ruling the California supreme court quoted a decision made in Perez vs. Sharp

'[w]ithout doubt, [the equal protection clause of the California Constitution] denotes not merely freedom from bodily restraint, but also the right of the individual to contract, to engage in any of the common occupations of life, to acquire useful knowledge, to marry, establish a home and bring up children, to worship God according to the dictates of one’s own conscience, and, generally, to enjoy those privileges long recognized at common law as essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men.’”

The Perez decision continued: “Marriage is thus something more than a civil contract subject to regulation by the state; it is a fundamental right of free men.

If there was ever a time that I wished there was not enough oxygen in the universe to give someone enough opportunity to voice such an idiotic, misinformed, blatantly homophobic statement, that time would be now.

Gay people choose to be gay as much as I choose to be straight, which is not at all. It's just a feeling you get, when you understand attraction of the sexes. But to find true love, and be denied the chance to express your love in signing a declaration of life-long commitment, just because someone's god wrote some book thousands of years ago, stating that your love that he gave you is wrong? That is utterly ridiculous, and profoundly shameful.

I think it was George Carlin that stated an obvious fact years ago. Christians are against abortions. Who is going to have less abortions than gay people? You'd think they would make natural allies.

The slickness of the presentation scares me. I like my zealous wacko's to wear bad suits, use bad video cameras, and poor audio equipment. Sweating a lot is a plus.

People might be fooled into thinking this nutjob is credible.

Germany has had "gay marriage" for quite some time and the total effect on peoples lives = zero. Only religious nuts obsess on this. The right wingers are great at manipulating language so it will move the "ignorant masses". In the old days we used to call this special skill "LYING".

I've heard from gay friends that the worst homophobes are actually gay. Not something I really understand, but I would add that they must be much worse when they are still in the closet, clinging to ancient lies that tell them all of their emotions are evil.

By the way, I am very sad to see the huge "yes on 8" banners here on the sift. It is a disgusting proposition and I hate to see one of my favorite sites is promoting it.

I agree that sucks. It's Adsense - and unless we can identify who's pumping them out we can't shut them down. Of course they only display to people in California - so I can't see them.

It's not illegal to say negative things about homosexuals here in Canada, we just don't have as many self-righteous religious assholes as down south.

Oh yes, and our society has digressed into a state of total chaos since we made same-sex marriage legal. ABORTIONS FOR ALL!

I think they have to question themselves before they can criticize others, the best example of closeted homosexuality by a homophobe has to be Haider. Right wing conservative Austrian political party leader that professes against gay rights and makes gays seem less than human:
Ends up his right hand man in the party was his boyfriend.

You've got to love the logic behind homosexuality leading to an increased rate of abortions.
Oh, wait. Silly me, I almost forgot that these types skipped out of their biology classes on religious grounds.
