Fox News Spins Pepper Spray: it's a spicy food product

Pepper spray doesn't work? Lay on hands. Hands don't work? Water cannon. Water cannon doesn't work? Rubber bullets. Rubber bullets don't work? Kent State!
I have no political agenda. My concern is that if peaceful protests are not allowed, the situation escalates. If protestors are orderly and peaceful, not blocking access, and are no threat, then leave them alone it's their right.

well... it is derived from a 'food product' ... chilis

the active ingredient in pepper spray is capsaicin, which comes from the fruit of capsicum plants... so... chili peppers - really, really spicy ones

spicy or hot is typically measured on the scoville scale, or shu (scoville heat units) - 100% capsaicin is about 15-16 million shu - us law enforcement pepper spray's active ingredient is 10% capsaicin... so say, anywhere from 500,000 to 2,000,000 shu

are there chili peppers that hot, say something edible? yes!

bhut jolokia, naga viper, trinidad scorpion peppers are all over 1,000,000 shu... and are eaten routinely

i've tried the 'ghost pepper' bhut jolokia as a dipping sauce for beef... uhh, it wasn't pleasant... tears, snot, burning tongue and cheeks - it was about 1.1 million shu

i bought a bottle of the chili sauce to 'trick' friends with... but ended up giving myself something like what these students felt:

i opened the bottle to see if it was as hot as i remembered - i touched it with just the tip of my pinky and then touched my tongue... damn!

i later took a nap and on waking, rubbed my eyes - big mistake... my left eye felt like it was on fire - i had to hold an ice cube to it for about 15 minutes

stupid thing was when i tried to to explain to my angry wife why i was late picking up the kids from school, i re-enacted the pepper incident (without the touch and taste)... and touched my eye again... lol, round two with the ice cubes

"It is a crime... they were posing a, you know, a sit-in - a student protest. And you can do that, tha- that's very American. But it may also happen to break the law." -Megyn Kelly

I've been sprayed with OC (very potent pepper spray) directly into my open eyes and naked face twice in my lifetime. Let me assure you, it was not voluntary, and I will never do it willingly again. Literally the most excruciating pain I've ever experienced.

Peaceful assembly is against the law! No wait... they were disobeying an unlawful command to disperse! Nope... wait, I've got it! The liberal media is just as bad as Fox News!

Nailed it.

Yes.

Got mugged once. Was pepper-sprayed right in the eye. Stings like a bitch. And it's slippery so no matter how tight you try to shut your eyes, it gets in, and in your nose, and your mouth. You think that you might not be able to breath, but you breath anyway, and it gets in further.

Tears will pour out of your eyes, and you will cry and cry and cry, but it won't help. You have to flush it out with cold water--and it will take hours to get it all out--though I hear milk or diluted maalox works better.

After a few minutes and brief struggle, I was able to get up and chase down the kids who attacked me. There's only so much you can do when you're outnumbered four to one, and having trouble seeing. I did succeed in scarring the crap out of them. Imagine them seeing the guy they thought they just took out chase them down for four city blocks AND catch them, in spite of a head start. I managed to get some of my stuff back and my wallet, though, they made off with my backpack and some money. Heh. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

When pepper spray is used it is almost always a weapon for assault, not for defence. The incidents I see on here haven't changed my mind of that. The talking heads on this video have no idea what they speak of.>> ^TheSofaKing:

Have you?
>> ^notarobot:
These talking heads have never been pepper-sprayed, have they?

Bill O' Reilly is a tool. However, pepper spray is a viable alternative to massive usage of force on demonstrators. Pepper spray is a tool used by police forces in first world countries instead of beating them with sticks. If you mess with the bull... You get the horns...

Porksandwichsays...

The more they react to the protestors, the more I see the point of the protests. I have to wonder how many people are there protesting just because they saw someone else being treated in similar manners to this. Protesting the reaction to the protest.

Dear Bill and Megan:

You are cordially invited to my house for dinner.

Sincerely,

PS Sean Hannity, who says that waterboarding isn't torture and in 2009 offered to get waterboarded himself, has still not done so.
