6 phrases with racist origins you may have been unaware
Absolutely. Although to be fair, they don't directly harbour that sort of hatred for the actual Romani people, it's more that the word has just been elevated to that level of insult.
The point that I was trying to make is that it's a bit too early to pretend that we're in a post-racial society and that we can safely re-purpose words that have historically had racist connotations - because the emotions behind those words are still very strong for some people.
And that's the story of how you have racist friends.
6 phrases with racist origins you may have been unaware
@newtboy I have friends from Romania and Hungary.
Gypsies are the scum of the earth to these guys.
Calling them a gypsy will get you a punch in the face, because it's that insulting to them.
ATLAS Walking Robot In A Forest
This is the most terrifying a prescient quote you can imagine. Either it is a deliberate turn of phrase they use in order to get the right ears perked up... OR it's a horrible choice of words that will go down in history when these robots become armed.
Oh, "mobility that's within shooting range of mine" you say?
Don't ever want to cross a street again. Ever
*This* is how they will sell the world on autonomous cars. Everything thinks they are a good driver. They are wrong.
But, if we sell it as "you are a good driver, but look at the crazy stuff other people do, don't you wish they were replaced by rule-following robots?". Hopefully people will go for it.
Restored Faith In Humanity - The Norweigans
I used to live in Edmonton but have moved to Winnipeg now. Fwiw.
Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball (More Like Holy Fuckball!)
I'm not personally a fan, but Miley wins at famous. She was pretty low on the radar. All she had to do was twerk and stick her tongue out and then release a silly music video and she is now still big news for whatever she does.
Her plan worked with epic success.
Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball (Chatroulette Version)
Having never been on chat roulette - I am extremely (and suspiciously) surprised at how many beautiful ladies are on there. They seemed to all be very attractive - pretty, fit, etc. Wouldn't you expect the opposite (on average) on chat roulette?
Just asking because I'm curious.
Useless Machine - Version 2.0!
Shut up and take my money. You could sell these and make a mint. They appear not to be mass produced and for sale. Someone should do that.
Plane crash scene from the movie "Flight"
I haven't seen the movie, and frankly I typically think any sort of human drama about response to a super unlikely disaster that never actually happened is lame.
It's too easy to make a movie that would be interesting if based on a true story, but isn't.
But then I saw this clip and now I want to see the movie. So; well played.
"Gone, Gone, Gone" - (Rhode Island Teacher Says "I Quit!")
My PhD supervisor always advised it better not to make statements where you can say the opposite and it rings equally true.
Costs will tend to go up and quality will tend to go down as long and as much as profit-driven corporations are involved in the business of education.
Profit-driven corporations mostly benefit from a passive conformist populace, they're a lot easier to rule over and exploit.

Aaron's Last Wish - A $500 Tip For Pizza
>> ^Fade:
I think tipping is such bullshit. I don't give a fuck what you earn. if your job doesn't pay you enough that you have to effectively rely on charity then get another fucking job. Nobody tips the mcdonalds or burger king staff. They work just as hard for just as little.
Why the hell should I have to pay over the odds for what was already a grossly overpriced meal? I don't earn a huge amount myself and the cultural pressure to tip makes me bloody angry. If anything a tip should be for exceptional service. A flat rate on top just means your prices are higher. Why not raise your prices and pay your fucking staff a decent wage?
Agree about raising prices and paying staff a decent wage. However, don't blame the server, blame the system. Minimum wage in Kentucky (Burger King) is $7.25. Minimum Wage for TIPPED staff is $2.13.

I'm not an American so I only presume I'm reading that right. So McDonalds staff might work as hard (or harder), but it's not for just as little.
The Bourne Legacy trailer
Ummm not really when there are NOVELS! It's written by someone else but it's still considered part of the series so no it's not lazy.

Not to be that guy, but (a) the books are *so* much better (and completely different) than the movies and (b)my understanding is that the post Ludlum books don't hold a candle to the originals. Anyway, the movies don't follow the plot of the original books at all so I don't see how a claim that more books exist can in any way validate the plot of these movies.
K so I'm that guy. The movies were fun but I read the books after and then was sad for everyone else that never will
Fox News Spins Pepper Spray: it's a spicy food product
Hey, remember when Megyn Kelly was awesome?

Was she never awesome or did they actually buy her soul? I can't reconcile how current Megyn Kelly and girl in video I linked are the same person.
