Oatmealsays...Thas pretty, cool, but what if your battery dies? Or you're in a car accidend and the frame gets slightly bent?
MarineGunrocksays...Also see: http://www.videosift.com/video/Rolling-door-concept-car
MarineGunrocksays...I wouldn't want to take it out into any inclement weather.
RedSkysays...If you're in a car accident and the door gets bent out of shape, you'll be equally screwed.
8891says...Heh. Marine, I thought the exact same thing the first time I saw it open. What if it's raining? I can picture the driver swearing at the door to close faster.
Still, there's definitely something to be said about a proper British accent and some Mozart in the background. The cumulative effect is something akin to "Of course you want this, what kind of heathen wouldn't want a piece of pure elegance?"
British accents FTW.
MycroftHomlzsays...^Yeah. This looks cool, but it could be very stupid. I wonder how that B pillar effects the structural stability of the side?
rottenseedsays...I'd cruise with the doors down instead of just the windows...
...of course I'd be naked, but that's normal
bamdrewsays...first thing i thought of was celebrities getting dresses/bags/arms lifted up and mangled by this.
awesome.
dagsays...Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
First thing I thought of was Brittany getting out of this car with a short skirt on. What's wrong with me?
dr20says...I suspect the car door as is has been around for a century because it's simple and it works.
budzossays...Think about the effect on insurance rates as morons would no longer ding other people's car doors while getting in and out of their cars.
Mgshadowsays...I like how you think Budzos.
jimnmssays..."Think about the effect on insurance rates as morons would no longer ding other people's car doors while getting in and out of their cars."
I don't know of anyone who files a claim for a door ding, so I doubt it will effect it. Most people have a $250-500 or more deductible, so that would have to be one hell of a ding to have to file a claim for.
Fadesays...I would design it to open up rather than down as in this example. If it opened up it could be used as a roof to protect from rain as you get out which would also reduce rain getting into the car
jmdsays...didnt we sift this allready? I seen this video before.
Arsenault185says...Hmm. I'm wondering about cold weather. Hell, back in Maine, it was common to have to pull pretty hard at your door because it froze shut. I wonder how the rolling mechanisms could handle something like that.
As far as the accidents go, i would imagine there would have to be a safety release somewhere, and the door would just swing down. Theres no way a country like Britan would allow a manufacture not to.
Nebosukesays...The system seems really loud...
ReverendTedsays...If I'm not mistaken, the previous video of this prototype technology was included alongside an auction for the prototype vehicle. Only the passenger-side door was demonstrated, as the hydraulics on the driver's side door had failed and would need replacement.
deathcowsays...No way for me, I need that little lip at the bottom of the door to keep the last six months of Happy Meal containers from falling out.
quantumushroomsays...This would totally rock on a motorcycle.
