This is a graphic depiction of birth, filmed in black and white. I chose it because it shows a natural birth where the mother is calmly focussed until the moment when her baby completely emerges, at which point she is overcome with ecstatic joy.
Because there is so much fear around birth and because most people only ever see images of a labouring woman in absolute agony, I thought this video shows a much-needed, other side to the story.
There's no doubt that giving birth is a sexual act. The natural high that a woman's body can achieve during labour, is to help her open up like she will only ever do when again in labour. Some women report experiencing orgasm during labour. I love the wisdom of women's bodies.
This video brings me to tears every time I play it.

ThylanThat was wonderful. It's pretty incredible to think of having been through that. This experience is so often portrayed as being unfailingly painful/scary/traumatic, you'd think noone was born before modern hospitals. That was a great portrayal of how a birth can be.
LordByronI love the wisdom of men's bodies: they don't have the babies.
deathcowthis video makes my eyes tear up... I'm going to go yell at my dog now and get back in the crappy mood I was trying to be in
qruelnice post.
we took bradley classes and had a water birth. momma was much more relaxed than on the bed. no drugs, cesarian or epidural.
deathcowall three of mine were born at home in water... my wife is a midwife and a bradley instructor though so.....
gargoylesays...ecstatic joy is right! (and relief...)
MarineGunrockWow - It's amazing how calm she is - like it's no different than answering the phone. But I wonder why she's topless to boot?
And surely this is *vintage.

persephoneShe's probably topless so she can get some skin-to-skin contact when she hugs her baby. A newborn baby feels so warm and wet and slippery-delicious!
Babymechsays...I was halfway sure she was gonna swallow it whole when it popped out and that manic grin took over her face.
MycroftHomlzMy mom is the only woman I know who has had natural birth.
Has anyone here done it?
My sister tried to have natural birth with her first child and after 16 hours of labor she needed the epidural.

Um, ew?
HaricotVertI think Ant would downvote this if he did not fear the backlash of hundreds of angry sifters.
persephoneMH,
I've had a natural birth, as have many of my friends, including Deathcow's wife, who did it three times! If you are well-prepared, it's entirely possible. Although I had no pain relief with our first, I was artificially induced, for being past due date, so I can't claim that it was a natural birth.
Second baby was born at home, pain relief came from the shower and hot towels on my lower back. He was two weeks past due date, eleven pounds and breech, yet easier than the first. It was such an amazing moment.
Ask your mum about her experience. It's always good to know.

deathcowCongratulations, you have found the most touching video on the Sift!
9847Wow! I have to say that is the first baby I have seen being born, and it kinda makes me wish we had a video of our 2!

The birth of my boy (from what I remember)was similar to that, I was very calm and estatic when he was born. My daugther's labour went for 3 days and by the end the midwife said 'ok push' and I had no energy left.
Very proud to say I did both without any pain relief although both bubs were prem and weighed 3lb 6oz and 2lb 4oz. I would love to have a full term baby next time and experience a birh like this especially where my bub could be bought straight to me.
Beautiful persephone
P.S. Persephone was what I wanted to call our daughter but hubby thought it was too out there... I love that name
spoco2"But I wonder why she's topless to boot?": Um, well, my wife was and she gave birth naturally, but in hospital (family birth centres for two of them, normal wing due to high risk birth for another). When going through that and going in and out of hot showers, hot baths etc. etc. you might just not want clothes in the way.
And also yeah, the immediate direct contact is also very important.
Why should it be an issue anyway? I'm just taken aback that it would even seem out of place for someone. Would you prefer she be dressed in her Sunday best with a handy skirt on for easy access?

mxxconit says video recorded in 1995, is that considered "vintage"?![](https://videosift.com/vs5/emoticon/oops.gif)
demon_ixMight not be actual vintage, but it certainly feels that way![](https://videosift.com/vs5/emoticon/wink.gif)
Amazing video. How birth should be.
gwiz665I guess I'm one of the few on the "I don't think that looks beautiful"-wagon. Nice for you if you do, but I don't.
Hive13I was there when all three of my kids were born. I watched it all first hand. There is nothing pretty or pleasing about it. There is some seriously gross shit coming out, including the slime and blood covered baby. Everything stinks. There is usually poop somewhere, mostly from mommy.
I cried like a baby all three times. It is an amazing experience.
EMPIREsays...Why is the video in the "sexuality" category? Why not nature? it would be a much better fit.
ShepppardI don't care about vintage s'much.. but I really don't think this should be in sexuality either.

persephoneThe quality of this version is not so good. Couldn't find another. Just wanted to add that I'm so glad this was added back to the sexuality channel. The ignorace behind having it removed from sexuality, shows just how little understanding there can be, even today, about what pregnancy and birth is all about. Good to see that the collective wisdom of the Sift prevails.
