(Another) video camera on conveyor belt at sushi restaurant.

A video camera takes a trip around a sushi restaurant on the conveyor belt. Lots of reactions to the camera.

Oh shoot! You beat me to the finish sifting this!
There's some great people responses here. I especially love the way the children react.

Welcome to the Sift, and remember to vote for your own video!

I don't know what it is because it's mostly boring, but I'm nailed to my seat for every one of these videos. I find them absolutely fascinating. Maybe it's because I wish I could *travel there. Or perhaps I'm interested by the reactions of everyday Japanese folks to the camera. Not sure, but I can't take my eyes off it. Scorsese couldn't have done better.

I wonder what it would look like if it was filmed in the US. My guess is people have tried but they never saw their camera again.

Great submission, Mr. Beans. I'm predicting it'll be the one to rid you of your big red P. *promote!

On a side note, isn't that youdiejoe at about 2:13?

Translation of the kitchen scene @ 5:15:

Kitchen staffer with glasses: “What’s this? There’s a camera going around.”

Other lady off camera: “What’s wrong?”

3rd lady: (LAUGHING) “Hey- it’s okay, it’s on a blue plate!”

Lady off camera: “The customer’s inside? Whose is this?”

Lady holding plate: “There’s a camera here someone may have forgotten!”

Lady in glasses: “Yeah, that’s it, they’ve forgotten it.”

Older lady in background: “Put it back- it’s a mistake!”

Lady: (WALKING WITH PLATE) “We’re in trouble.”

She rings the bell, and the sushi chefs come to the window.

Lady: “This was going around and taking video…”

Chef: “Ah, this, it’s probably a customer’s. Umm, it’s a foreigner.”

Lady: “They put it on here?”

Chef: “Yeah, they tried putting it out, to take a video. Of the, er, of the scenery.”

Plate goes round, back to girls.

Sushi Chef: (TO GIRLS) “Oh, it came back, didn’t it?

This is better than most movies I've seen lately.

The kitchen scene is absolutely riveting... Will the camera make it back out? Will they just hand it to the girl, or will they put it back on the conveyor belt? It was a cliff-hanger! The feeling of triumph at the resolution is just astounding.

Sometimes you watch the sushi train go by. Other times the sushi train watches you.

Also, the kids between 4 and 5 award this video entrance into the hallowed *cute halls of *happy kitchen *comedy.

If I was a screenwriter, I'd make a short film revolving entirely around this gimmick. It'd be a 7 minute film. You'd see a couple arguing in the beginning. By the end they'll have broken up or made peace with each other.

I can also imagine a music video using this concept too. Probably a better match.

^If it went around 3 or 4 times, you could have 6 or 7 little mini stories. You know someone is going to do this ...

You could be flexible with the passage of time, as well. Different seasons with each pass, or years later but clearly the same people. I agree someone will exploit this idea.
