iframe? wtf is iframe? can I embed them?

Hihi,

I browsed the sift talk a bit, but didn't find an answer - well, a definite one anyway..

. Maybe I am just totally not into code and I can't figure out what to change, if anything can be changed to use an embed with <iframe crap> ..

I know Vimeo changed to using iframe thibngs as a default, but they still let you get the old 'normal' embed. ("This is our new embed code which supports iPad, iPhone, Flash and beyond. Don't like change? Use the old embed code instead." )

I just went to 'The Onion' site today and wanted to submit something and the embed started with '<iframe...> That, of course gave me the 'The embed code you submitted does not appear to be valid' when I tried to submit my video..

SO! Anyway: My questions:

Will VS start supporting iframe embeds.

If not, is there a way to change that embed manually to make it VS compatible?

Is there a way to have a not-so-coding-or-computers-wise (= dumb as a boot when it comes to code, like me) people to submit iframe embed to VS?

Oh, and can we have a *notadupe command too?

Pretty please! I know you guys are busy, but you are also smart and those things would make life easier for little sifters like me

*sits and begs*</iframe></iframe>

The problem with iframes is that they can contain any kind of content, including malicious code meant to harm your computer and mistreat your kittens. There's no way to control what kind of content is or isn't in an iframe, so for the security of all our users we have to stick with direct video embeds.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

The sad thing is that the source video for the iframe is just a standard embed but some sites feel the need to wrap their embeds in iframes for usually, business reasons - tracking, html ads etc. MSNBC does this, and I believe Lucky made a tweak to extract the source embed from the iframe- we may be able to do something like this for other iFrame hosts in the future - but really I wish they would just stop. Lots of sites will not let you use iFrames in any kind of submission due to the security risks they entail.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the info! I will avoid iframe like poison now, and hope regular embeds will stay around. Not that I use embeds anywhere else, but it is good to know iframe can have nasty things included.

I have just seen iframe in so many places lately and was wondering if I was able to somehow convert them to regular embeds. Hard to believe, but I was actually decent in coding - eh, back in the late 90's. Now I can't even remember how to do regular html any more. I need practise..

And I will definitely keep my eye on the Onion's YouTube channel now!

Iframes, I thought were out of style but I guess not. An iframe to me is a webpage inside of a webpage. Iframes are despicable, horrible, things when you have to load test a web application that loves to use them.

You can't just load the ASP, or JQUERY no you have to load the iframe document as a whole new webpage in order to deal with it. Now imagine a bunch of iframes on one page.

Me and Iframes do not get along.
