Force Your PC to Upgrade to Windows 10 Immediately
Today Windows 10 was released and it's a free upgrade for most modern Windows machines. Microsoft is rolling out the upgrade across the planet in waves, but with the instructions below you can force your PC to upgrade without waiting. It's still at the "Preparing for installation" step on my computer now.
Instructions to Upgrade to Windows 10 Without Waiting in 4 Steps:
[edit]
I was getting some error with the Windows Update method, so I opted to just download. I don't know why everyone doesn't just do that to begin with.
In any case, I'm fully upgraded to Windows 10!
So far so good. Not really exploring it because I'm busy working, but I freaking love the virtual desktop feature. Finally I don't have to fill up my task bar with all my many tabs. I now have a different desktop for each different set of apps I'm working on together. This is life-changing for me.
Instructions to Upgrade to Windows 10 Without Waiting in 4 Steps:
- Make sure your computer is fully updated using Windows Update - that's how the Get Windows 10 app is installed; you'll see a little white Windows icon in your system tray (by the clock)
- Open that Get Windows 10 app and reserve your free copy of Windows 10
- Open a cmd.exe window as Administrator (right-click and choose Run as Administrator)
- In Windows Update click "Check for updates" and before it's finished checking, quickly go back to the cmd prompt and enter: wuauclt.exe /updatenow
Windows Update will immediately start downloading Windows 10

Not that much worse than previous versions, but still...
I'm changing from Windows XP to Windows 7 this month. I fear change but my nephew goes back to Berkeley soon so figured i best bite the bullet and trust he can do it. Fingers crossed.
Biggest complain I have is there' NO FUCKING WAY to tell visually which window is the active window.
I managed to employ a stupid hack to allow a COLOR to be used in the title bar (because by default the title bar is the same color as the rest of the window and there's no built-in way to change that), but that just makes all the windows the same color instead of all the windows the same non-color, but there's still no way to make the ACTIVE window a different color.
It's extremely frustrating to keep typing into the wrong window then ALT-tabbing around trying to get focus to the fucking window you mean to be working in.
Ugh.
No thanks to these newer Windows versions. If MS keeps this up, I am going full time Linux and Mac OS X.
As a Mac and Linux user, I found Windows server 2012 (like Windows 8, which I haven't used) much easier and more intuitive than some of the older versions.
Microsoft seem to have

Can server do consumer stuff like computer games?

I think it should be able to. Back in the Server 2003 days some people liked it better for desktop use than Windows XP.

I remember a lot of softwares didn't support these server editions. Even my former employer's Norton products didn't support them.

Is there any truth to the keylogger issue with W10?
Apparently this is how to disable it:

There's a actually quite a few UI no-nos like this in Windows 10 which is a shame, as its otherwise pretty solid.
