Ban Mail

We often get mail from the banned, we sometimes post it in the commnents of the banned submission, but then it gets lost. I think we'll start giving them their own post. Sometimes they have legitimate gripes - and sometimes they just need to vent. I present the first Ban Mail:

Im pretty disapointed with the admins for this site. I posted a video for a song and was banned. There was no ads selling things directly ..it was just to sahre the video. Any artist posting a video has product that can somewhere be purchased so you need to then ban everyone.

I believe you made a mistake with your privilage of power or perhaps were a little to intense with your rulings. Ill make sure to spread the word around about the admins at videosoft. Look at your Jamiroquai video and then follow the trail of links which will eventually lead to a sale.. watching it leads you to a sale ..so then why would you ban my video.... its called power abuse or lack of responsibility useing power.

the video was posted under my account acoustica which had another video up as well.

yeah, what dotdude asked, ya wanna share the ban-litter, or whats???? Post it so we can pick it the hell to bits......thumbs up, down, in, over, or off.....that'd be so much better than ban parties, and wayy more beneficial, from a therapeutic perspective, than paying money for advice from a shrew under the bridge, for the whiners, errr, disgruntled......

i'm sure it has nothing to do with the wording on the rule. *rolls eyes*

flowery wording aside, all you need to do is say, "If you uploaded the clip, you are not permitted to link it here. This is considered a self-link, and is a bannable offense."

period.

it's the whole self-promotion thing that's throwing everyone off. change the "self-promotion" text that's in HUGE red letters to what I bolded above and maybe we'll have less issues. I realise it's already addressed in the ruleset, but it takes a click and reading through 2 paragraphs to get to the simple line, "The video is associated with your account on the video host (i.e., you uploaded it to YouTube, Google Video, etc.)."

I think pho3n1x has the plan.....semantics-plain and simple, and if you know it's a difficult thing, for some folks to process information from what they read, say it a couple of times different ways......"When making a single piece of toast, use the right slot only, and face the top of the bread or bagel, east, or right." (how to burn toast)

I am with pho3n1x on the words used on the submit page. As the FedQuip controversy demonstrated, 'self-promotion' is often defined very differently depending on where you sit.

This site has become too ban-happy, even if ban-worthy dreck has been submitted. If I were a new user now, I probably would not bother learning the secret handshakes, exceptions to self-promotion, and tagging protocols. Far easier to lurk.
