shuacsays...

Tough to believe this was made by id, who historically lack imagination for such a style. I guess they left the monster closets out of the trailer.

sixshotsays...

Looks okay... but doesn't look any different from the other games that follow the same FPS game design flow-style. FPS mode in some places, cinematics in another, and possibly a few QTE mixed in somewhere. This is what id Software is now -- just another game developer studio. PC version? They'll probably will laugh at you for bringing it up.

Tinglessays...

except that it is in no way made by ID.

MachineGames is the developer, they are now owned by Bethesda but the point is they are not ID.

ID has nothing to do with this game except the engine it is based upon.

I would ask that if you have any interest in this particular game, look up MachineGames. Look up the previous videos they've uploaded.

They're PC developers and programmers. The consoles are an afterthought to them on a personal level. Beth/Zenimax seem to have given them free rein on this one.

RedSkysays...

I'm cautiously encouraged. They've said they're doing single player only, there's some apparent focus here on creating memorable characters and scenarios rather than explosions go boom, plus they've released what looks like snippets of in-game play albeit cinematics rather than just creating fancy CGI trailers. Only time will tell I guess.

Paybacksays...

The thing I always have a problem with about alternate histories where "the Nazis won" is logistics. There just wasn't enough Germans to hold the entire world. They had a hard enough time with Europe and Russia.

Yayayah, I know, they have evil demon robots and mecha-dobermans and shit in this game, but that took 11 years to develop in this universe. How'd they hold the US before that?

ChaosEnginesays...

Didn't they have evil demons and robots and whatever during ww2 in this universe? Pretty sure I remember fighting demons in RTCW.

Anyway, I guess they'd establish small garrisons and use local enforcers or something.

This all looks a bit CoD to me, and not the good parts, the MW3 parts.

In this alternate history, BJ Blazkowitz was teleported away from his original objective, thus the germans werent stopped. thus able to win the war. He appears suddenly in a mental institution at the present day of this games timeline, and fights back. Thats what i've picked up atleast.

Asmosays...

Sry, how is that a bad thing?

Doom/Wolfenstein/Serious Sam etc, all guns, no depth, tonnes of fucking fun...

Depth can be vastly overrated, particularly when you're trying to stitch it on to something that glories in you getting your bad on and crushing the Nazi scourge in to paste. It doesn't need depth.

LiquidDriftsaid:

Looks like something I could have come up with when I was 15. All guns, no depth.

LiquidDriftsays...

It's a bad thing because it's formulaic garbage. I've played dozens of games like it and I already know how this one plays before even picking up a controller. Boring.

I have to agree, I stupidly bought Duke Nukem Forever thinking there would be at least some attempt at humour. I couldn't be bothered to play past the football stadium which, IIRC, is the first point in the game where you actually shoot something. If I'm wrong, that just goes to prove how boring it was.

In that case I hope Mecha-Hitler is still alive and well. . . That's a sentence I never thought I'd say.

You must have the shortest attention span ever. You played like 10 minutes of a game before giving up on it. That's like watching 2 minutes of a movie and then walking out of the theater.

Again I say, and...?

Great, you've decided (based on the trailer of course) that you don't want to play it. That doesn't make it objectively bad just because it doesn't meet your precognitive standards...

Much like Left4Dead (which is the very definition of formulaic), it could still be fun if you were prepared to actually give it a chance rather than prejudging it.

But whatever, you and the stick up your ass have obviously made your decision, enjoy not playing!

Haha, OK when you aren't picking up a BFG and killing off *insert ridiculous nazi baddies* in the last act, then you can come back here and tell me how wrong I was and what a thought provoking meaningful experience the game is.

I'll be playing some indie games that are actually trying to do something more interesting than shooting anything that moves.

Who said anything about "thought provoking meaningful experience"? =)

You're doing what all classic internet "experts" (ie. arrogant twats who think their opinion is the last word on everything) do, creating a fallacious argument to launch your scathing invective at while missing the point entirely. If you tried to bolt depth on to a title like Wolfenstein, you'd be undermining the core of the game, which is Nazi destroying mayhem. Do you really need a complex story arc giving you motivation to kill a thousand mecha-SS riding T-Rexs? Of course not.

A game does not require depth to be fun. Certainly there are plenty of indie games that also indulge in the "no depth all action" genre (http://www.crimsonland.com/ as a classic example).

I do have to correct one error in my previous post however, it's not a stick up your ass. It's your head... ; )

Well at least we can agree that it's formulaic garbage If that's the sort of thing you like, at least you have plenty of entertainment options available, and you don't even have to bother reading any reviews!
