South Carolina cop shoots man for getting license

During a traffic stop, Officer Shawn Grouber instructs the driver to get his license, and then shoots the man as he reaches for his license. Dash cam video proved it an improper shooting, and Mr Grouber has now been fired and charged. The driver survived being shot.

What pushes me over the edge is that the sentiment you expressed is about the maximum level of rage we're "allowed" to show without becoming another fatality. This makes me more than angry, but modern law and un-free speech do not allow me to express how angry this makes me feel.

They really need better screening for Police Officers... since they keep hiring terrified racist pussies who shoot pets, see imaginary guns, and shoot unarmed people with darker skin tones.

The problem with police in america is the culture. These people are drunk on power that increases with every passing year as they are given access to military hardware and told they are 'soldiers too' without having any of the training to use it.

Change the culture, remove the ever-increasing miltarization and shit might actually change. Until then every person who isn't white can live in ever constant fear that their lives are in danger every time they see a cop.

The cops shoot plenty of white people for no reason as well. A few a year where I live. It's MORE dangerous to have darker skin, but not 'safe' for anyone.

I would say it's almost certain he was shot because he was a black man.
A white woman following directions in exactly this way would probably not even be yelled at or questioned about reaching back in the car to get her license because the cop wouldn't have been scared of her (for no reason I can see beyond 'scary black man') in the first place.

Title may be misleading. He might have been shot for being black.

That said, the officer does sound sorry once he realized he fucked up.

The injured man is lucky that the cop was such a bad shot.

Still, the way the officer reacts reminds me of the behavior described here: http://videosift.com/video/A-Brief-History-of-the-United-States

I'm white and I've been yelled at for reaching into the back seat to get my wife's purse for her. The cop drew a taser and yelled at me to stop reaching into the back seat. I stopped, nobody got tased, and he advised us that we were driving a car that matched the description of one that had been used in an armed robbery minutes before.

The cop shouldn't have shot him, but I would have expected him to at least be prepared if the guy came back out with a weapon. I would have thought that he should have moved behind the back of the vehicle and been prepared as he yelled, not fire multiple times indiscriminately in a public area.

That's similar to one of my experiences, except my cop put his gun to my head because he read my license plate wrong and thought my car was stolen....and I didn't reach anywhere. If I were treated today as I was on that day, I would be in the hospital, fortunately I was 19 and healthy at the time and was not hurt permanently by the rough treatment I received before he realized his mistake and became indignant about it.
That officer received a written complaint on his official employment record that should still be following him today.
Had I been black, or brown rather than a dirty white boy, but otherwise the same, I feel my police experiences may not have ended without injury and/or charges. That's a sad state of affairs.

Wow, read poorly much? @HugeJerk didn't say they were ALL like that, or that the force only hired people like that, they only said they keep hiring them.
Are you attempting to deny that there are too many terrified racist pussies who shoot pets, see imaginary guns, and shoot unarmed people with darker skin tones on the force? One is too many, and there's way more than one.
