Ricky Gervais responds to Golden Globes criticism

In my opinion it's far less offensive that he was "offensive" than it was that he used really lame, overdone, talkshow jokes. Charlie Sheen? I've heard that joke several times already on Jay Leno. It's DONE. I want humor from Gervais, not TMZ fodder. Try a little fucking harder.

If only you could perform or write something funny...then maybe we'd give a shit what you say about other really funny people.

I find it funny you say such things kinda the sentiments I thought earlier . Now I am smiling. Thanks be to Ricky Gervais.

I can and I have. I didn't realize Gervais was above criticism around here. He's one of my favorite performers, but that doesn't mean I need to be happy and fellate him when he tells a lame joke. When you grow up you'll realize that no one is perfect.

Again... such a beatup about shit all, but brilliant for Ricky's career and for the Golden Globes.

Can't say I like Piers Morgan at all, he's a fricken annoying interviewer that asks all the trite, predictable crap.

Ricky killed the Globes and if they had any common sense AT ALL they'd invite him back every year. It's not like the guy did an "Andrew Dice Clay" so I don't see the problem. He was VERY funny.

Imagine the ratings if he came back next year.

Of course they won't do that because they're not that smart and they don't want to upset snobby rich stars that get their panties in a hissy-fit when they're not he center of attention.

@Yogi - I don't agree that you need to be able to perform in order to criticize. That's absurd.

However, I think @pointykitty is missing the point that he is doing these quite brutal jokes right in the target's face instead of in front of a biased studio audience like Jay Leno. When Leno gets up on stage in front of these people, the jokes are about someone else, or at least toned down.

So no, it wasn't Gervais' best material, but the time and place he said the things he did is at least half the point. He's not making fun of the gorilla from behind the safety of a glass wall, he's there in the cage. That's balls. And a lot of people are conflating that with the word "funny".
