How to Disarm Gunmen, Like a Boss.

This guy show you how to get out of the very unlikely situation of someone putting a gun to your head.

I'd be more impressed if there was a real threat of the guy pulling the trigger. Even if it were just a squirt gun I bet guy would get it in the face like 75% of the time. Not that this looks totally useless, but it seems to me most of the value is in hoping the assailant is bewildered by mad kungfu skills long enough for the person to get the gun under their control.

a lot of those techniques are quite similar to krav maga gun defense. there's a reason we are trained to be at a maximum distance when securing detainees.

but to the nay-sayers: there are no badasses, there's only the trained and the untrained

but what about the trained and untrained badasses?

I just have to say, that as an Isreali agent who killed 500 Nazi's AFTER the second world war, climbed Mount Everest on my hands and once stole the tooth of a dragon:

That wouldn't work in a real street fight.

I was robbed at gun point about 10 years ago. Guy puts a sawed off shotgun in my face. Im here to type about today because I didnt try any stupid shit like this.

now that I think about it, 2 seconds is a bit extreme - I was remembering defencive driving training where they said 2 seconds to react to a change, but that really doesn't make sense - it's definatly much faster....
but still if you had a gun on someone and they made a sudden move to take the gun, I think that your reaction time would be far enough behind to not pull the trigger.
Of course this still would assume the person with the gun was silly enough to stand that close to you.

Drachen_Jagersays...

I wish they would do these demos with a paintball gun. I counted at least half where I would have pulled the trigger before he touched the pistol. It looks fine until you realize how quickly the trigger could be pulled, even an expert like this would die better than 50/50.

I've been following Maul's videos for quite a few years now (since before he created this account in 2006) and I have to say this is one of the least impressive I've seen from him.

As a Silat derivative, his style naturally contains lots of very impressive knife techniques (both offensive and defensive) and I especially enjoyed his demonstrations of the crocodile ground fighting.

I think the point here is that anyone stupid enough to get that close to you with a gun is expecting you to be totally cowed. They are not expecting any of these moves.

Even so, my father was once part of a demonstration like this where the instructor gave an unloaded gun to several trainees, and challenged them to pull the trigger after he started making a move. None of them were able to. I haven't seen it in person myself, but I tend to believe it. Your reaction time is not as good as you think.

Ryjkyjsays...

Yeah, there's a major difference between knowing absolutely, for sure, that the "hostage" in a demonstration is going to make a move in the next few seconds, and pulling a trigger at just any point in time that your hostage happens to move. This is why I never take hostages.

"How to get shot in the head, like a bitch."

Even if the guy doesn't have time to react, half of these risk him accidentally pulling the trigger. Unless you're starring in an action film, just give the mugger your money.

jmdsays...

Some of these indeed risk the chance of getting shot. My guess is this is not a training video for civilians who have a high chance of escaping with just property loss, but in the case where you are an authority figure and leaving you alive would be dangerous to the attacker, escaping is a much higher priority.

This demonstration was clearly more about technique and speed. He was extremely fast and most of these disarms would have worked. I particularly liked the boxing of the ears because it is a not to well known method of disorienting the attacker that dosn't require strength.

But alas as has been said above, any smart attacker would not be in arms distance unless he was also excelled in hand to combat, or stupid.
