Cultish Orthodox Jews do NOT want you in their community

A non-Israeli tries to interview some Orthodox Jews in their community about the current conflict. His reception is all but welcoming.

(There's crazy on both sides, and its name is religion.)

I've met Spurlock and he's a pretty nice and interesting guy...

And I used to live in a community near a Hasidic Jewish community (as depicted in this clip), and, yes, they tend to be rather "Cabalistic" in their views.

Posting from Israel...I've seen a bit of this during my stay so far. Although, being antagonistic with a camera can escalate the effect pretty quickly. Haha.

Extremists will be extremists, no matter the religion, culture, ethnicity or educational level.

I disagree. I'm pretty certain that real education trumps religious ignorance universally. The problem is what these people are taught to believe in the first place.

I like the idea that old man had of standing in front of Spurlock and shoving him. Seriously I would've just swim moved him, and went on my merry way.

EDIT: Seriously though I'd like to find out why they were mad...maybe it was the questions Spurlock asked because if he asked anything about the Palestinian situation they probably went to the local tavern and told on him and people started showing up...small community word gets out within 30 mins of them standing around. Now I really want to go there and bring a camera and interview some people, in fact we should get dozens of people to do it, like a sort of protest of inquiry.

From Wikipedia: Hasidic Judaism or Hasidism, from the Hebrew חסידות—Ḥasidut in Sephardi, Chasidus in Ashkenazi, meaning "piety" (literally "loving kindness",[1] IPA: [ħɑsiduθ], [χɑsidus]), is a branch of Orthodox Judaism [...]

cult [kuhlt]
noun
1. a particular system of religious worship, especially with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, especially as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3. the object of such devotion.
4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5. Sociology . a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
6. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
7. the members of such a religion or sect.

Looks like they match all of the definitions of cult to me, and there is no mention of how numerous a group has to be. Unless @therealblankman disagrees, I think this fits in the *cult channel.

Hasidim may be fucking crazy, but they are way too numerous to be considered a cult.

Fine with the cult assignment. Though this particular group of crazy-ass Hasidim might disagree, from the outside looking in it seems to fit the definition.

Oh yeah, don't get me started on those crazy college-educated atheist extremists, Man! They're the worst by far! I heard they intend to build a virtual bio-theological weapon and spray doubt all across the Web. Arm yourself! Don't forget your vaccine shots at your local church, synagogue or mosque, to protect you from reasoning!

Just watched this movie. Spurlock was surprisingly close to Osama at the point that he felt he was closest before deciding to go home; he was less than a 3 hour drive away.

I'd say there aren't many cults that consider themselves cults on the inside. Kinda like hipsters.>> ^therealblankman:
