I have an evolutionary theory to why women don't just hand out their vagina like candy:

Everytime a woman sleeps with a man she 'risks' having a baby. This is a big commitment, especially for the female. On the occasions that this is with a responsible male he will stick around to help taking care of the offspring. If the guy takes off she's stuck with the baby and both their chances of survival go down. Hence if the woman is more careful with whom she picks she has a better chance of ensuring her genes survive.

Sure, in todays society you can use a condom. Also, in todays society a mother with her baby will not be left to die, society will step in and help out. But neither of these things have been around for long enough to make an impact on instincts etc.

The problem with this theory, other than that I probably don't even know what I'm talking about, is that we and our ancestors are group animals, so I guess guys can't leave just like that, and even if they did, there would be other parts of the group that could help with the new offspring.

Also, another problem is to explain stuff like one-night-stands etc.

Yeah, so even though this guy's obviously joking around, there's probably a lot of truth in the situation for him. This is why you don't buy women dinner/gifts unless you've had sex already, and even then it had better be a reward for something or an occasion.
