What R2D2 really said in Episode 1

Subtitles for all of R2D2's lines in Episode 1.My other videos and writings and stuff here: http://www.meanestbear.com/wp/
budzossays...

This was funny. It's been almost ten years since I saw Episode 1. I forgot what a complete fucknut Jar Jar is. But even more I forgot how completely painful Jake Lloyd is. I've seen better acting from a nine year old playing with his action figures.

messengersays...

I saw ep3 by sneaking into it after watching South Park. It was so awful, but I left the theatre satisfied that I hadn't paid for it.

It's tied for first with Cool World as the worst movie I've ever seen.

Wild West with Will Smith might have eventually qualified, but it was so unbelievably bad I left 15 minutes after sneaking in.

No upvote because the subtitles were unoriginal and didn't fit the dialogue. Downvote because of the random faggot joke. "Eat a dick" was a chuckle.

Quboidsays...

Ep4 was where we learnt why C3PO was such a tool ... he was built by George Lucas.

Star Wars has to be the most over rated movie series of all time. You know how bad Ep1 - Ep3 are? That's pretty much how bad Ep4 - Ep6 look if you didn't see them when you were young enough to get lost in the fantasy. Instead of Jar-Jar, you get a moon full of teddy bears - who can beat a heavily armed but apparently untrained army.

I knew someone who saw Ep1 when they were very young and he raved about it exactly like people 10 - 20 years older than me rave about Ep4 - Ep6. Thankfully, he grew out of it.

ponceleonsays...

I always thought that the commendation scene was weird and doesn't even match up with the rest of the franchise... If you look at the attitude most people have to droids in the SW movies they are slaves at best, but more likely like toasters.

So this said, I'm going back to office kitchen to commend my microwave... it warmed the fuck out of my lunch.

smoomansays...

the 3po scene had me rollin!

it is evident that most have completely missed the point about the saga. Lucas' inspiration were the saturday morning serials of the 30's, among other things. It is supposed to be corny, with sap dialog and the like. I won't deny that ep1-3 were a bit of a letdown but, whatever.

It says something about the series, if not the general public, that it remains the third highest grossing film series, behind Harry Potter (BARF!!) and James Bond

spoco2says...

Ep4-6 were NOWHERE near as bad as 1-3.

Take the wisecracking humour of Han Solo, take the interplay between C3PO and others, and take the wonderful setting and menacing bad guy.

Now... replace it with slapstick comedy, horrible child actors, possibly worse young adult actors, actual 3 stooges routines... and you're left with utter tripe.

The original ones are undoubtedly better if you saw them as children, but they are also great in and of themselves, and the reviews by ADULTS at the time bare this to be true.

The new ones are just horrendous.

rychansays...

The acting was indeed terrible, but I still think all three of these movies were 90% of the way to being really excellent, if someone could have just told George Lucas which of his ideas were terrible. And obviously someone else should have directed.

The terrible acting and dialogue from that kid, from Jar-Jar, and even from Natalie Portman just cancel out all of the "wow cool" stuff that is legitimately there.

Farhad2000says...

This is a horrible film.

- It makes it seem like a kid can destroy an entire planetary force ALONE.
- It destroyed the entire Jedi power mythos through blood test. Couldn't they just say "I feel something about this child... some power"
- The dialog is stupid and inane because almost everything was a fabricated set behind a green screen.
- It was directed by Greoge Lucas, who knows NOTHING about directing actual human beings. Empire strikes back was the best because it was actually directed by a character director.

I could go on but I don't get paid to do this and I need to do drugs now to forget how stupid Episode 1 was.

smoomansays...

it's a morality tale, Farhad. It's par for the course for them to not entirely line up with logic.

Being a Star Wars fanboy myself, I too thought the midichlorians or whatever was a bit much.

The dialogue. I still think hardly anyone really gets it. Watch an old Buck Rogers or Adventures of Robin Hood show. The dialogue itself: cornball but it's intentional. The delivery (notably in the Star Wars Prequils): ok you got me there
