kronosposeidonsays...At first glance I thought the title was "Up-close PORNography of a leopard seal." Oh well, I watched it anyway.
arvanasays...According to Rule 34, somewhere on the Internet, there is leopard seal porn.
notarobotsays...I want his job!
EndAllsays...*quality
That's bloody amazing! Those were some stunning photographs, and what a tale to tell, eh..
siftbotsays...Boosting this quality contribution up in the Hot Listing - declared quality by EndAll.
JesseoftheNorthsays...Incredible... One of my friends worked for the British Antarctic Survey for a number of years and he was telling me about how he was once broadsided by a Leopard Seal while he was wading in the water at the shoreline holding a zodiac steady. He said the sheer power of these creatures is unbelievable. I've seen a couple myself and they are pretty intimidating animals. I would be scared out of my mind being in the water with one. They grow up to 12 feet long, weigh up to 1300 lbs and can swim as fast at 65 km/hr. They're very efficient predators!
Throbbinsays...This is exactly why Inuit hunt them. Not for food (that's just what we want you to think), but as a crusade against satan.
robbersdog49says...It's great to see some shots of him with the seal. These things are huge and without the person tere for scale it's hard to understand quite how intimidating they are. Amazing the way it treated hime though. Incredible story and fantastic shots. I would love that job.
lucky760says...Very cool. I wonder if the seal was reacting to its own reflection in the camera's big glass dome.

Wow, good point - never thought of that. Certainly plausible, I'm sure that lens was very reflective.
StukaFoxsays...Now THERE'S a man who knows that nothing beats a tight seal!
ryanbennittsays...4 days without eating, he must have been starving...
gharksays...oh wow, awesome story, very brave cameraman, i guess you gotta take the risks in that kinda job.
Paybacksays..."My... what big teeth you have."
Totally wish I could close my nose off like that.
zorsays...What the hell are those unicorn horned whale fish at 0:08! Seriously, I've never seen anything like that!
arvanasays...^ Those are narwhals. A bit misleading having them in a clip about Antarctica since they only live in the Arctic...
Raaaghsays...woooooooooooooow aweeeesoooooooooome
necrontyrsays...This is one of the best arguments in favor of being a nature photographer I have ever seen. My fashion models are not nearly so majestic it feels.

It's the teeth.
deathcowsays...At first the fashion model kept bringing me those 100 calories travel packs of Ritz crackers. Then she started opening them for me and putting them in my mouth. Even when I finally ate the crackers she wasn't satisfied. She would bring crackers, eat them herself and then vomit them back up while prodding at me.
