flavioribeirosays...I noticed there's no Economics channel. I added this to Politics, even though Horrorshow is probably closer.
siftbotsays...Discarding this video. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 4 days.

choggiesays...your mantra, should you wish for your children to enjoy relative ease in their waning years....teach them to speak Chinese.....
this scenario would change exponentially with free energy...
calvadossays...Does this come from a longer documentary? Anybody know?
MINKsays...^it says short film (in a bad font, at the start)
upvote for the story about the asians and the american on the island.
Throbbinsays...I'm a worried Canadian who thinks our economy is too closely tied to America's. With our abundance of natural resources, we have to find other markets so we don't suffer the same fate as the Americans.
cybrbeastsays...calvados, these are clips from the Dutch documentary program Tegenlicht. You can watch the complete documentary here:
http://www.vpro.nl/programma/tegenlicht/afleveringen/24877874/media/24974875/
But you will only be able to understand the English parts, of which there are quite a few..
bamdrewsays...@4min is a highlight " (the) transition involves a very significant recession, and nobody wants that, so everybody is trying to postpone it, (making it more severe once it arrives)..."
vyka11says...this reminds me of a horror movie......turn off the soundtrack (ie driving bass beat) and its not nearly as scary. (even if the info presented still is)
flavioribeirosays...vyka11: nowadays people don't seem to pay attention unless there's an ominous soundtrack. Discovery and History channel documentaries pushed this trend, and I think it's here to stay.
When the regular American sees an economist or accountant speaking, he has the Homer Simpson reaction to yell "Boring!" and change the channel, not realising that this sort of information could provide for his family much more than his paycheck or government benefits.
Memoraresays...yep if you want to be employable in the near future become fluent in Standard Mandarin Chinese, both reading and writing, emphasis on Business/Technical.
kronosposeidonsays...I would say this definitely involves *worldaffairs, and economics is a social *science. And the *spookymusic made the information even scarier.
Great video, flavioribeiro. I've known for a while that Americans (and I'm one of them) are living in a declining empire. No military or economic superpower can remain that way forever. Just ask the Egyptians, Persians, Romans, Byzantines, Mongols, Mughals, Ottomans, British, Russians, Klingons.....
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Science, Worldaffairs) - requested by kronosposeidon.
Aemaethsays...Nice to finally find something on this matter. I've always figured this would have to happen eventually (do the math), it's just nice to hear the confirmation. I heard once that every generation has it's war and it's great depression. Who knows, maybe this will get postponed till the next generation...
ronin165says...I feel like the narrator in Fight Club...when he wishes for a mid-air collision. Am I completely weird that I kind of look forward to this happening? Something to set us all back to 0.
SaNdMaNsays...This creepy music in every similar video is annoying as hell. We're talking about the economy, not Area 51, for fuck's sake.
legacy0100says...Damn, we shoulda let Hitler ruin them Yourapeein's . Damn our ancestor's morals and high ethical consciousness.
But seriously, I think the video is way too exaggerative. If it keeps going the way it is? Yea, it just might happen. But I highly doubt America would let itself be screwed like we have for these past 8 years. It's was a freak occurance, not an inevitable regression.
jwraysays...I remember when a dollar was worth slightly more than a euro.
jwraysays...http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/52/Euro_exchange_rate_to_USD%2C_JPY%2C_and_GBP.png
thecosmicshamesays...The ominous music only shows the American side of the story, the inevitable collapse. But we have been exploiting the rest of the world for too long, it seems that this would level the playing field substantially. Capitalism is inherently inequitable if actors don't play by the rules (war, colonialism, etc.)
But I wouldn't get the Chinese textbook just yet. We don't have to import food, water, or shelter into this country, only gasoline and electronic components. he end of the dollar is the end of American consumerism, but not American well-being. I predict a change in the standard of living which will probably be good for the country...does our increased purchasing power really make us better off?
Its the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.
