The Inevitable Collapse of the Dollar

thecosmicshame says...

The ominous music only shows the American side of the story, the inevitable collapse. But we have been exploiting the rest of the world for too long, it seems that this would level the playing field substantially. Capitalism is inherently inequitable if actors don't play by the rules (war, colonialism, etc.)

But I wouldn't get the Chinese textbook just yet. We don't have to import food, water, or shelter into this country, only gasoline and electronic components. he end of the dollar is the end of American consumerism, but not American well-being. I predict a change in the standard of living which will probably be good for the country...does our increased purchasing power really make us better off?

Its the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.

I saw this on PBS a while back. And if its good enough to make me not flip past PBS, it certainly belongs on the sift.

Perhaps just a field on the submit page to easily contribute the first comment without additional clicking. Wouldn't require any major changes to the site, but would provide essentially what you are suggesting. As far as the front page goes, I think the tags work just fine, if I want more info, I'll click on it.

I think its interesting how newer members are so excited about suggesting new ideas for the sift. I feel like more posts come from nostars and bronzers than anyone else (I must admit to submitting a few "brilliant" ideas myself a month or so ago), while the goldies sit back and enjoy.

I like that the site grows slowly and organically. If every suggestion were implemented at once, the site would be like CNN a few years back (remember when the news only took up 25% of the screen?). Keep it as simple as possible, I say. Google is a great example of this..but click on MSN.com...gross.

Anyways, thanks Dag and James for staying conservative with version updates for the site. I'm imagining 25 channels right now...just doesn't seem necessary.

But I like the *nature idea. As well as *art. There I go breaking my own advice...what a shame.
