The lieutenant governor of Texas recently suggested that many grandparents in America would be willing to risk their health in order to see a resurgence in the economy amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Texas Lt. Gov Dan Patrick appeared on Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s show Monday night where he shared his thoughts.
The Republican who turns 70 next week said Monday he believed “there are lots of grandparents” would make this choice and said “Let’s get back to work. Let’s get back to living.”
Seeking to clarify his remarks, Carlson said, “You’re basically saying that this disease could take your life but that’s not the scariest thing to you. There’s something that would be worse than dying.”
Patrick responded, “Look, I’m going to do everything I can to live but if you said, ‘Are you willing to take a chance?’ and you know if I get sick I’ll go and try to get better but if I don’t, I don’t.”
Patrick’s remarks echoed remarks shared by President Donald Trump earlier Monday during a briefing at the White House who seeks to have businesses reopen their doors.

kir_mokumsays...so the economy is worth sacrificing ~3.3M people in the US alone?
kir_mokumsays...never mind the issue of choice. this guy is suggesting those who die don't deserve to choose if they want to sacrifice themselves for the economy.
newtboysays...Don't forget, his whole plan is based on the mistaken assumption that it's only dangerous to old people.
This from the same group that lost their minds over the fallacy that universal health care would include creating "death panels" that would decide if grandma was worth giving medical care.

dedsticksays...Talk about your "Ass kisser of the month". Typical response from the ruling party. Save us some money and sacrifice your life for the "cause". Is this really our legacy?
TheFreaksays...What a pair of disgusting shit stains.
Sketchsays...Why don't these morons understand that facing and dealing with the problems of the world DOES THE WORK of repairing the economy?
StukaFoxsays...This isn't about the economy, it's about Trump's re-election chances. Trump's only win during his entire presidency has been the stock market climbing and the jobs numbers (despite the fact he didn't actually have anything to do with either). Now that we're looking at the highest unemployment in American history and a stock market meltdown that makes '29 look like an afterthought, Trump knows the BEST case scenario is being voted out of office in a landslide and the WORST case is that he ended up in prison for high crimes against the American people.
wtfcaniusesays...It was amusing how he did a piece on the apparent "liberal" playing down of the virus causing complacency in the populace while completely ignoring Trump's actual playing down of the virus.
notarobotsays...It will take 6-9 months to ride out a flattened curve.
This man wishes to sacrifice the lives of millions to capitalism.
