TYT - Romney: Why Don't Airplane Windows Roll Down?

I'm flabbergasted that anyone could possibly say those words in that order. Could he possibly be dumber than G.W.?
RFlaggsays...

Most people are reporting it as just a joke... so as anti-Romney I may be, I'll give him enough credit to say he knows what's going on with a plane, just an odd sense of humor... but I love the early reactions from everyone about it.

I'm skeptical of this too, a transcript only, it all depends on how he said it, this could easily be just a little joke he did. But then again, the way Romney talks it can be a little hard to know if he's joking. I'm not trying to make fun of his stupid ideas or religion, I'm saying he's the kind of speaker that can do a joke and nobody in the room understood that a joke was just done.

That being said, the ignorance about cabin pressure and temperature , assuming it is real, is nothing compared with the stupidity and gullibility needed to accept mormonism.

His wife was on that plane and he was concerned about her welfare. Why would he joke about emergency preparedness of a plane on which his wife was flying? That doesn't make sense to joke about that; I'm convinced he was sincere.

If you hadn't noticed yet, Cenk doesn't care. Cenk is a bit left leaning and so he can sometimes be harder on republicans and see them in a worse light than most.

>> ^Januari:

Seriously... I'm not even skeptical... Cenk needs to smarten up himself and realize that he basically just got trolled by Romney.

yeah, there are much better, more legit things to slam Romney on.
It's just a brain fart, let it go.

That would be more worrying than if it was just a poor joke, which I reckon it must've been. A brain fart is mixing up someone's name, not this

I find it amusing that joke or not, the reaction this is getting where people are actually entertaining that he may have been serious. Shows how much people think of the guy

That article reported 10 dead initially, the text of the article now says 11, and it turns out maybe 12 died now. There is a big difference between misspeaking the data you hear from your earpiece or PR guy (or even brainfarting and saying 10k when you mean 10), and not understanding why windows don't open up in airplanes.

Daily show has it right though, Obama is the luckiest man right now...he's not doing anything right to win it, but most likely will, because Romney "blew out his ACL".

You're right, as long as only 10 people died, it's not a tragedy.>> ^lantern53:

*clap* *clap* *clap*
So for the first time, there's an actual defense for one of the stupid things Romney says; that it was just a joke, but instead your first instinct is "attack the other guy!". Well done. You should be on Fox News

Quboidsays...

I think it was a joke.

Is it that unreasonable anyway? People seem to be assuming that if it's not a joke, that he means windows that passengers can wind down like a car but obviously they'd be locked except when in an emergency and the plane is less than 10,000 feet up. If the plane is on the runway and it fills with smoke, being able to open the windows might help. Or it might bring in more oxygen and make the fire much worse...

I agree. He was joking, and I actually don't think it's that stupid an idea, either. Sure, as he articulated it, it sounds like a stupid idea. You don't want a hand crank on every window (although I've been in commercial airliner cockpits that DO have such a thing).

But maybe it IS a problem that airliners don't have a way to rapidly vent the cabin and cockpit with fresh (yes, low pressure and cold) air. It won't be comfortable at 15,000 ft, but it could save lives. Smoke in an airplane is a serious issue.

Would've liked to see the original with TYT commentary. Romney's comment is definitely humourous, in the same way a child makes an innocent but ridiculous observation that causes adults to laugh at the absurdity of such a notion. Bit of a stretch to suggest it was a deliberate joke though
