Skier Loses Footing, Falls Off Huge Cliff

From YouTube:
Beautiful bluebird day. He quickly loses his footing (0:55) and down the massive rock face behind him.
The accident is captured from his own point of view from his GoPro camera.

Luckily he was able to sort of get into a skiing position (more than likely completely off balance) and jump (or push past) past one or two sets of boulders. Here's to his next 8 lives.

Going up there to do that is just Fail in the first place, but to stand around like a putz on TOP of the damn thing just makes him fail even harder.

Yeah, he seemed to go through a lot of trouble to get into a dangerous situation and show reckless disregard for his well being, but then he failed to close the deal while tumbling down a mountain. I mean COME ON! You were in the home stretch!

Can't understand how he didn't break both his ankles at 1:11.

It's very difficult to break one's ankles in ski boots (though possible with soft or brittle boots).

From the looks of it, he hit the rock with the heel area of his foot, which probably slammed his ass down onto the back of his skis. He may have an injured tailbone or lower back, but it's hard to tell from the camera angle.

A set of well-fitted ski boots is nearly like having a solid cast on the foot going up above the ankle. My boots would probably snap my shin bone before allowing any injury to my ankles or feet.

It's funny; I knew that but completely spaced it. Been doing a lot of cross country skiing lately and wasn't even thinking about downhill boots.
