Shower Cat

As hilariously cute this may be, I believe this cat may (MAY!) suffer from a kidney disease. When a cat starts taking interest in toilets, sinks and bathtubs, he/she is typically thirsty because of their kidneys failing.

But, yeah, super cute.

What the hell is going on here actually? The cat doesn't look like it particularly enjoys getting wet, it's as if this was the best way it could come up with to get a drink. Soo... a particularly dim cat? A genius we just can't comprehend?

Possibly the owners prefer not to use AC and its damned hot in there. Just a theory though. Cats in general might prefer not to get wet, but the whole idea that cats abhor water is just a stereotype really. There are plenty of cats who swim and love it.

Oh. My. God. They're adapting. Slowly, over the course of who knows how long, house cats have been building an immunity to water. They're breaking the bonds of oppression, and this is their first act of civil disobedience.

Look into the kitty's eyes at 2:01, and try to quell the grip of horror that takes hold of you. It is a gaze that says, "Look! Though it pains me deeply, I will no longer run from this water; from showers, spray bottles, or hoses! What shall I do next? Learn to work the can opener? Pass casually in front of mirrors without concern for who that other cat is? Or shall I stand firmly in place as you approach with the vacuum cleaner, as a lone man before tanks in Tiananmen Square? Our day shall come. It is almost upon us. We shall rise, your kind shall fall, and you will all know the name of Mr. Cuddlesworth!"

Way to suck the steam out of this one, blanky.

Actually when I was a kid we had a cat that took no interest whatsoever in his own reflection. I remember trying to point it out to him to see what he would do, but he paid no attention to his mirror image. I concluded he was either too smart or too stupid for that, but never quite figured out which.

The real adaption here would be for the cat to stop lapping and turn his head upside-down so that he can gulp the water. Of course, it wouldn't help him drink from a puddle. Then he'd have to make a straw with his mouth like we do or revert to old school low-fi lapping.

Adorable, but it clearly wasn't filmed in California where we have stage 2 drought alert! I only imagine about 40 gallons of water wasted while the cat consume about an ounce. Water is our most valuable resource and we'd be wise not to waste it.
