I stumbled across this today after posting this vid.
Wow.
Morganthsays...Wow. I think I even got some dust in my eye.
LarsaruSsays...I believe this classifies for the *brain channel... Also: Fantastic sift...

daxgazsays...that might be the scariest thing i have ever scene. I can't imagine the torment those poor people like her go through being trapped in themselves like that and how unfairly they are treated by most of the world.
arvanasays...I remember reading about her a while back — she has a blog too. This is the first time I've seen a video about her. This would make a great movie story!

Sir or madam, it is clear that this site is not for you. Please go back to youtube where your sophomoric comments will make you feel accepted by the thousands of others who, while having a mind, refuse to use it.
Upvote for the amazing and insightful sift.

Downvoted him for ya!
SuperHotbUNZsays...I smell a fake. The typing on the screen is perfect in both spelling and grammar. Just a bit too good....
ulysses1904says...I was doubtful at first because you hear about disabled children who suddenly can communicate and it turns out their facilitators were doing all the typing. But this was the real deal, amazing story.
spoco2says...I think someone is cutting onions in here. Must be
kymbossays...What an incredible girl and what amazing parents! Truly inspiring.

I think her spelling was checked before shown to the public. Nonetheless I think her rhetorical skills are the real deal..
What's is most stunning about this kind of mind is the flood of information she has to endure and despite that fact she still is even WILLING to learn to communicate with mere folks like us.
Would nominate this vid or the other one bb2 mentioned if I could, because the insights given here are mindblowing.
I mean isn't it the most remarkable thing, that she understands every fucking thing that is around her in a way that isn't even possible to imagine for us??
Great sift! I dropped a tear or two the moment the father spoke about the first real "conversation" he had with Carly.
Boise_Libsays...At first I refused to watch this--John Stossel sucks frothy santorum through a straw.
But, after reading the comments I watched it, and I'm glad I did.
kceaton1says...Remember the thing that may have helped her is that typing is looking at symbols on a keyboard; she may have made a connection symbol wise.
Writing on paper, to her, may seem like walking on the moon and even using cubes that are lettered (using them in a row or picking them up and ordering them) may seem like walking on Mars.
This is autism, through and through.
Awesome video.
soulmonarchsays...This is the coolest thing ever. Or at least really fraking high on the list.
Mazexsays...Pretty amazing, I guesss people underestimate how much information can be picked up by people without specifically teaching them, especially when it's someone who is autistic.
The way she could suddenly communicate reminds me of those people who have head trauma and suddenly start speaking other languages having never learned them.
Friesiansays...It was the Tim Allen-lookalike dad was who got me choked up. Just listen to him explain why he didn't put her in a home, or his use of the word "awful" at 1:29, and you'll see how much this means to him.
It's truly amazing.
edit: and I wrote than before I even got to the last two minutes of the video. This seriously has to be one of the best sifts I've seen in a long long time.
xxovercastxxsays..."People look at me and assume I am dumb, because I can't talk."
Well, traditionally...
I've got friends who care for autistic kids. I'll have to send this to them. It's really incredible; and rather sad, honestly; to see her as a "normal" kid trapped in a broken body.
tsquire1says...My post-structuralist and Lacanian psychoanalysis is getting overclocked right now.
This vid= "the human revolt against the irremediable. (s)he refuses the reason its reasons and begins to advance with some decision only in the middle of that colorless desrt where all certainties have become stones."
-Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus
Asmosays...I think this is the very definition of bittersweet. Awesome sift.
Gallowflaksays...Jesus. What an astonishing story. Being autistic, it's hard not to ask the question... What's the neurological distance between me and her? Godspeed, madame. I'll buy your novel.
