Real Life Russian Braveheart - Two Enormous Gangs Brawl

Looks like the blues felt at a disadvantage once the fight started and opted to try a defensive position on the bridge "300 style", but couldn't hold it. Didn't help that they left behind a pocket of blues behind that got pummeled badly.

at first, when watching this video before i read the comments, whereby unknowing of the fact that these were soccer fans and not gangs; i couldn't help but think to myself: "wow, not a single gun..."

which of course led to the thought of if there were guns, and how many of the people there would have been lying on the ground rather than running away.

just sayin...

So weird. I'm surprised that people dumb enough to engage in street brawls still maintain some degree of honor about it. I can't believe that someone doesn't get all stabby or shooty. I mean, if it's just large scale MMA fighting then that's dumb but it's not Sarah Palin dumb.

That looks pretty civilized to me, the mobs i've seen in Rotterdam and Dresden seemed much more chaotic and violent. Then again, nothing beats a ménage à trois of Dutch, British and German hooligans.

These are soccer hooligans.
The really amazing thing is that there is a strong code of honor in russian hooliganism. Both sides meet at a prearranged place, and each side has as many people as the other. A level playing field is the goal. If you cheat, your own gang will punish you for it.

So can anyone translate before the initial clash? All I can imagine is:

"Men! Today we meet on the field of battle for the glory of our... Er... Football team. Spill your enemies' blood and laugh at their feeble attempts at color coordination! Advance! LIEUTENANT WHITE POLO ORDERS YOU TO ADVANCE!"

All this over soccer? That six minute video was more exciting than all soccer matches ever played.

That's kinda why there are so many soccer brawls... well, the low scoring of soccer games. There's SO MUCH tension in soccer games 'Oooh, he's going to, going to score, going to... aaawwwww... nope' over and over again, the tension gets really high, and the release of said tension only happens once or twice, or sometimes NEVER in a game... so all these fans have all this ridiculous tension... and they feel the need to let it out somehow.

Hence, brawls.

Now... Aussie Rules football... regular scores into the hundreds (ok, a goal is 6 points), and you have ample release for tension, hence you don't hear that much about aussie rule fan brawls.

Looks like a dupe of this (now dead) post by mlx:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Russian-Hooligans

I know it would suck to lose all these votes but the longer it stays up, the more it will hurt.

Not sure mlx is still around to fix hers, but something has to be done about this situation. Maybe discarding the dead one could be a solution as well, though it would be unfair to original poster.

"Vote merge" anyone?

Let´s have the hive mind figure something out: *discuss

Ah, with my luck, of course it's a dupe.

I went ahead and administratively modified mlx's embed and republished it. Please send your votes that way.

Perhaps something like *votemerge=http://www.videosift.com/video/Russian-Hooligans should be added in v3.3.

For now, I've got a *License to *Kill.
