Matt Harding: Where The Hell Is Matt? an 'Elaborate Hoax'

The Entertainment Gathering 2008
Monterey, CA
Dec 11th, 2008

Viral video sensation Matt Harding responds to accusations on YouTube that his Where The Hell is Matt? video was photoshopped. He reveals the entire thing was actually a big-budget viral marketing campaign...

EG is the celebration of the American entertainment industry. Since 1984, Richard Saul Wurman has created extraordinary gatherings about learning and understanding. EG is a rich extension of these ideas - a conference that explores the attitude of understanding in music, film, television, radio, technology, advertising, gaming, interactivity and the web - The Entertainment Gathering (From Fora.tv)

Wait, what? I don't understand a few things:

1. It would be more expensive to use puppets than to fly your actor to a couple places (like Buenos Aires) and get people to come be in the shot. Why not do that?

2. Who paid for this any WHY did they spend millions on it? Who benefited from this?

I do believe that this story of an elaborate hoax is in itself an even more elaborate hoax to poke fun at all the people that have claimed that the original video was just an elaborate hoax.

I intentionally did not mark this as a parody as I didn't want to give anything away

What I've learned from using the internet that any conspirical idea somebody puts forth, is believed by a group of people. These people seem to think that they are quite intelligent, and that everybody else on the planet is being fooled, an elaborate veil is being pulled over their eyes. They like to call the uninformed 'sheep'.

I like to call these informed people, retards.

Especially annoying are Zeitgeist followers who try to convince everybody of the shadowy elite, and that they should question what they see in the media and do their own research. But they themselves swallow everything Zeitgeist says, hook, line and sinker.

I admire Matt for not only traveling the world, (something far more people should do) but also for having the unabashed sense of humor to goof on the morons that rag on him.

Way to go man.

"Animatronic puppets know how to keep their damn mouths shut."

LOL! This is excellent.

The original video remains probably the coolest video I've ever seen in my life.

The irony is that the dancing video is real, but the REAL Matt was kidnapped before the presentation and replaced by an animatronic Matt created by Adobe to promote their products by claiming Where the Hell is Matt was Photoshopped.

I don't like that they make you go to the TV fora site to see the very end. It would be better if this were ripped and then posted on youtube in its entirety.

Makes you wonder what the real lie is that he is covering up with all the fake lies...

Is he fishing for hits on Buzz Brain Bender for the PSP which are the top results for a google search? This guy is uber viral!

Memoraresays...

Sorry to all the True Believers in this guy's 'cause' but the last few minutes remind me of some Youth For Christ evangelistic crusades i've been exposed to:

"C'mon everybody, up on the stage! join us! join us! Dance! Sing! Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
Ohh, if people would just Believe... Believe and receive... We could change the world... change the world... change the world... for Christ."

at which point the red flags go up in my mind and i wonder what cause they're really evangelizing.

You sir, just failed at the Internet.

And I'm a pretentious British fop from the mid 19th century, for using "sir".
