Matrix Catfight [Cat vs. Many many Puppies]

Hello Mr. Meowderson...

Does anyone else have the problem where every time you look for answers to WTH is going on in the Matrix movies, people start going on at the subtext, rather than what the hell was ACTUALLY GOING ON in those movies, from a physical point of view? I have a friend who literally can't seem to separate the subext from the actual on-screen plot.

That's because the actual on-screen plot sucked. I can't blame your friend for blocking it out of memory.

The plot of the first movie was quite good and well thought out. From the second movie onwards the plot became steadily worse and nonsensical. Especially Neo having powers in the real world totally ruined all credibility. The Matrix was never planned as a trilogy, and that's quite obvious when you watch number two and three.

The Matrix sequels and the Star Wars prequels were products of a similar situation -- very creative people (Wachowski brothers, Lucas) who were too successful for their own good and didn't have someone to exercise editorial control and tell them no. Those types of people need a filter.

The Matrix sequels and Star Wars prequels were 80% to 90% good movies. If only someone had stepped in and said "no Midichlorians, no Jar-Jar, less Lincoln Park worthy teenage angst, no "soft, not like sand", and no slaughtering a legion of rainbow Skittles jedis for no reason.

But the opening of attack of the clones and Darth Maul's duels in the phantom menace were fantastic. The chase scene in reloaded was great. The machine swarm breaking down the defenses of Zion was captivating.

I like how the events of the cat video match the events/music of the Reloaded battle. The cat jumps out of the masses of puppies, cat "flys" away at the end, etc

I think it's pretty clear that the real world we've seen so far is really just the blue matrix, which is the next layer of simulation "up" from the green matrix. There is probably an insurmountable number of simulation layers. That concept, along with the terrible casting of the sequels, almost killed the whole thing for me.
