LSD research and why it was stopped

When good drugs go bad...

[edit] This links to my youtube profile, BUT it was a fix to a dead link, this is just a playlist to an "Embed Disabled" video.

I was fortunate enough to see Dr. Erika Dyck lecture on this topic a month ago. I was amazed by how much science was manipulated by government agendas and the media at the time.

Having taken LSD 4 times more than 12 years ago, in a "graduating" manner (ie. my first was 1/4 of a tab, increasing to one regular tab the 2nd time and thereafter), I can say that acid is a pretty wild drug. No two trips were the same, nor were they comparable to what my friends were experiencing, even though we took the same type and were in the same environment.

My first experience was very mellow and I did not "peak." Spent most of the time watching 3D animation and Spike & Mike Festival of Animation videos, etc.

My second started as mellow; however, when I peaked, I had a bad trip. My third was the most intense as we did it out in the forest of a state park near San Diego. I always equate the peak I had there as a "mental orgasm"; that's truly what it was. My fourth and final was at a friends house and was OK, neither too memorable or bad. I could go into detail but don't want to ramble. I should write them up and post them to Erowid when I get a chance...

I'm an advocate of anything that will expand consciousness and allow people to look at things and think in new ways; but you *have* to do research. Know what to expect (...and that was the hardest thing to do with acid), do it in a controlled environment (ie. plan it out. The last thing you want to experience is tripping and having an unwanted knock on the door), and have a sitter present. I'd also recommend a gradual introduction as it can be overwhelming. If given the chance, I don't think I would do it again. The conditions would have to correct, ie. right mindset, controlled environment, etc, etc. And I've got bigger fish to fry at this point in my life.

I wouldn't be totally against LSD being used in the arsenal of non-lethal weapons. The collateral damage would be cut down quite a bit, so long as dosage was moderated and it's use wasn't specifically for a civilian population. You'd probably see more AK-47s with flowers in the barrels as a result.

notarobot, I love how you say "I was amazed by how much science was manipulated by government agendas and the media at the time."
Do you really think the same thing isn't the case now?

Dag, your my new hero.

Here's to hoping that it gets legalized on the next ballot here in NV. (Actually it needs to get voted 2x successively for legalization in NV, but the last vote was something like 46% vs. 54% against....I like those odds)

Acid can still be very dangerous but nothing is for sure. I know a couple guys in highschool died doing stupid things while on it. One thought he was on fire and ran away from the "sitter" but before they could catch him he got hit by a truck. A friend of mine that sat next to me in computer class had some sort of flash back and started sweeting, I leaned over to ask if something was wrong and she started screaming and proceeded to scratch and claw the shit out of me. Then ran out of the room and I never saw her again. Of course im not making a general statement of this is what always happens (since tons more people did it without incident) its just you dont know what can happen good or bad
