At first I thought the kids were stupid but I think those questions were so stupid the kids assumed they were tricks and gave the wrong answer. Stupid kids, what have we taught you about assumptions?

This is a classical demonstration of Piaget's developmental psychology theory called the Preoperational stage in which children aged 2 to 7 years of age are unable to adopt the principle of conservation which understands that quantity or length of an item is unrelated to the arrangement or appearance of the object or item.

Such cognitive abilities begin to develop between the ages of 7 and 11 years of age during the Concrete Operational Stage (unless you're Republican, in which case cognitive development is severely stunted).
