Bah. When is he going to start throwing rocks at her face, or hurl her to the ground with force? If she wants to experience down hill mountain biking, that's a big part of it.

it just pains me how oblivious many parents are when it comes to the impact of media especially on small children. I'm sure they all had a great time but there are better ways.

That's what you came away with after watching this video

I only let my kids watch 1 hour of documentary TV per week, but even I can see that the bonding between that father and his daughter far outweighs any damage that might come from looking at a screen.

Wow. Just wow.

You are presented with a video of a loving, technologically-savvy father having AN AWESOME moment with his daughter and you act like he plopped her down in front of Spongebob Drumpf: Presidential Demagogue - For Kids!, and drove down to the corner to get a case of beer...

Fer crying out loud, he even has her wearing herhis helmet!!

He has done N.O.T.H.I.N.G. wrong in any way, shape or form.

She's probably smiling too hard to even SEE the screen...

Also, that's not a CRT, where an electron gun is constantly firing radiation at your face. It's an LED or LCD flatscreen. If you think THOSE do damage, then I respectfully submit you stop reading this and print it out because your monitor uses the same tech.

Are they too busy raising barns to afford more than an hour of documentaries?

And out come the luddites....

"Help! Save our children from that awful technology!"

FFS, this is awesome. Would be even MORE awesome with a VR headset.

LiquidAvatarsays...

Actually... pretty much. They're 4 and 7, so the barns are actually being built for the fairies that live in the backyard... but yep =) Restricting the type of TV that we allow (and the time that we allow) has had a marvelous effect of their imaginations and was one of the best choices that we've made as parents. But that's not to say that screen-time is evil! I think that this guy is demonstrating a fantastic use of his TV.

Thank you for restoring my faith in humankind. That was what I meant in my earlier comment.

I would find the unreflected outrage of some people here quite amusing if it wasn't so sad.

You're one of those "all the rights of free speech with none of the responsibility" types...

You threw the first stone with your ridiculous complaint about being too close to the screen (cos POV on a TV works so well 11 feet away and LCD's cook eyes like CRT's /eyeroll...). So it's okay for you to have a bitch about what is a very cool (and somewhat physically intensive) fun thing that a dad did for his kid, but it's not okay for people to point out that you're an ass..? Two way street mate, don't throw punches if you're too chickenshit to cop one back. = )

To paraphrase the old saying, if you can't stand the unreflected outrage, stay out of the Internet.

Oh, and "it just pains me how oblivious many parents are" will get a different response than "one of the best choices that we've made as parents"

You CAN see the difference in the attitude? Can't you?

NOXsays...

You can call me an ass all you want, just don't take yourself too important. Your "punches" don't touch me the slightest. With "sad" I didn't mean myself but the fact that so many people are absolutely ignorant to the downsides of modern media.
I never wanted to say that I think there might be any physical dangers for the child coming from the screen, my thoughts were more in the direction LiquidAvatar mentioned.
And please excuse me if I apparently failed to explain what I meant without ambiguity, English isn't my native language.
I just wrote what I think about it and I'm well aware that my view on this matter won't find a majority. That doesn't make me automatically wrong though.
I'm very sorry I apparently upset some of you guys, but hey, that's the internet, right?

Oh I'm not upset (at least not in the traditional "oh noes, someone disagrees with me" way= ), I feel sorry for you.

You see the same thing as the rest of us, but instead of marveling at the effort the dad did to give his kid a unique experience, or thinking about how cool it would be if something like that happened when you were that age, the only thing you see is that she is too close to the screen...

I don't blame you for your mindset, we all have our mental baggage, but I feel sorry that you are incapable of seeing the wonder of an ingenious way to give a child a fantastic thrill. It's sad.

What is the detrimental impact of THIS media then? What is it you are complaining about?
