This makes me angry...

I posted this without really thinking about it -- then proceeded to think about it during the long walk to the office this morning....

I wonder if this isn't Stockholm Syndrome? No fighting ever heard, only married two years, he is divorcing her, and then he says he "deserved it" after she profoundly punished him. If it is Stockholm then he is a very brave man to get the courage to try to divorce her in the first place.

I can think of other scenarios that fit the facts, including the "I deserved it" -- which include some pretty repressive and abusive attitudes of some churches towards sexuality.

And never underestimate the evil that exists in a low-self-esteem man who needs to control his wife and children... how many men kill their own kids to punish women for leaving them? Kill the women for daring to leave them?

Not that this is a gender contest in who is worse to whom....

@bareboards2 It's annoyingly hypocritical to have you finish off your comment with "Not that this is a gender contest in who is worse to whom...." after you put three gender oriented arguments out there.

I'd say that it's near impossible to fairly compare one kind of suffering to another as a justification for anything close to this. For example, which is worse? Cutting off a man's penis, or female circumcision? It's pretty pointless to compare (and again annoying to have to read followed by a "Dont worry about what I just wrote, this isn't a contest! ) but one thing we can agree on is it's wrong to mutilate/disfigure another human being.

Sorry to offend you. Just saying what I think.

Paraphrase: Some men are very controlling, some men kill women for leaving/daring to leave them.
Implication (considering this man didn't do the aforementioned things): Sure this woman did something horrible, but Men do horrible things to women too!
Conclusion: "THIS IS NOT A GENDER CONTEST!!!"

I'm just waiting for a coherent argument.

@hpqp - life for her is about 40 years. Murder sentences are too short, I'll definitely agree to that. Hand, foot? All the same as a dick. Maybe worse. I really have no problem with the death penalty for people who purposefully murder someone. You have no use left on out planet. Either that or slave labor.
