And a guy who did nothing and was minding his own business, get's his car damaged, gets intimidated by the police, and physically abused. Wonderful.

That was my first thought as well. Here's what strikes me as being truly sad:
It wasn't too long ago when we were somewhat accustomed to foreign authority abusing power. We've all seen videos dating back decades of riots in communist or third-world countries. Tienanmen Square is a good example of how unstable the rest of the world could be, making us feel that much more secure in the US.
Now, thanks to the last decade of reality waking us up, the first thing we think when we see such obvious, abusive and exploitative actions by foreign police or government is: "Wow. It's just as fucked up as America over there."

newtboysaid:

So, it seems cops are liars and dicks everywhere.

newtboysays...

Sadly no. If only it were hyperbole, but it's not.
That was statement of fact born out by repeated un-debatable video proof that many (the majority of?) cops are unapologetic liars and assholes so smug in their ability to 'get away with it' that they don't even care that they are caught on video anymore, and then (totally reasonably) that designation turns from many to ALL cops because the rest stand behind the liars and assholes, making them liars and/or self/team serving assholes themselves.

hyperbole much?

sad but true

This is what evidence looks like: http://www.bjs.gov/index.cfm?ty=pbdetail&iid=4914
(psst, it's a report illustrating how cops are perceived and are acting like dicks)
(it's timely, 2011)
(it's from a reliable source, The Department of Justice)

Read the report out loud, that's what evidence sounds like.

Next on the logical fallacy parade, Lantern will dismiss it away as a liberal conspiracy.

he's predictable too. Bobknight will later come in and make some noises with poor grammar and spelling.

It has happened before, and will happen again.

You see an occasional video of cops doing something wrong and think all cops are evil.

Have you ever seen the videos of african-americans rioting or committing hate crimes against white people, or raiding stores or slugging white people or old white people? There are plenty available. Do you then draw the conclusion that all african-american people are evil?

You probably consider yourself a critical-thinker, don't you?

newtboysaid:

Did he not see the camera or what?

newtboysays...

I see cops who are tasked with upholding the law and trained and paid well to do so, being abusive criminal bullies and douchebags with authority and 'immunity', and others ignoring that duty to support/shield fellow officers in that criminal activity, time and time again. Because nearly 100% of police act that way, as accessories after the fact at best if not actual accessories and in direct opposition to their duties to protect the public, yes, I think they are nearly all 'evil' and criminal. There is the rare exception of the officer that sacrifices his/her own career to do the right thing and report other officers, but they don't stay cops after 'snitching'.
Wow, so you think cops are a separate 'race'? Talk about a lack of critical thinking ability! Similarly trained 'professionals' that separate themselves from society and have their own separate homogenous 'culture' are far more homogenous than any 'race' of people. Your insinuation to the contrary only paints you in an extremely bad light, only one kind of person thinks entire races are homogenous.
A better analogy would have been 'Have you ever seen gang members committing crimes and drawn the conclusion that all gang members are evil?' I would answer that 'no, but I do think they're all criminal.' Gang members don't have a duty to uphold the law that they are shirking, so MIGHT not be 'evil' in their criminality.
Absolutely, I got an A in critical thinking, thanks for asking. Have you ever studied the subject?

So you think that every black person you see misbehaving in a video is a gang-member? What a racist.

Your argument is weak. Your assumption is illogical and wrong.

But nice try.

So sad that that's your level of comprehension. That was YOUR argument, and YOUR assumption YOUR lack of logic and YOUR racism...but you're a cop, so of course you try to put your 'crimes' onto someone else.
(you're so incredibly racist that when someone writes "gang member" or "criminal" you actually read "black person".)
Now you are just being one more smarmy asshole racist cop that can't read being a dick because someone smarter got the better of you...again. Why don't you just go home and beat your wife some more?
What a mekraub! I only wish you weren't too cowardly to admit where you work so we could all avoid you. Sadly, predictably, you are exactly that kind of coward that has to hide from his own inappropriate statements.
Terrible try....and fail.

You are just too hilariously ridiculous to ignore. I mean, really, you make a racist statement, someone shows you how racist your statement was, and you attempt to reverse the statement so you can then call the other person racist!? Wow! It seems you aren't just stupid, you're also dumb if you think that will work. Others have FAR better reading comprehension than you have displayed, and you've already been called out on your BS this time by others, proving that point. You started with the name calling and making assumptions, and you also complain that those things create 'someone with the mental capacity and maturity of a prepubescent teen.'...so that's how you see yourself, right?
Where's your 'beat', or are you still too much of a coward to say?
FAIL!

You don't need evidence to refute a statement that flies in the face of logic. And I'm not surprised that the cop-haters on this site outnumber thinking individuals.

newtboysays...

BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!! Your hilarious!
True, I don't need evidence to refute your ridiculous, flip flopping, inconsistent statements, but I offered some evidence anyway! You simply can't accept it, because it proves time and again that you're position flies in the face of logic, reason, and civility.
Most recently I provided evidence that most readers " have the capacity to read these comments and determine for themselves who has failed." and they determined YOU failed. Of course, you discount those that disagree with you (everyone here) in favor of the only one that agrees with you (yourself) and continue to claim backing from (and agreement with) phantoms, somehow 'proving' you're a 'good guy' here. LOL! Just hilarious!
Haters of criminal cops are more often than not thinking individuals, while cops are more often not. A max limit for cops of 110 IQ (and average of <95 IQ) proves that out easily. I'm not surprised that you once again move to insults and non-sequiturs when proven wrong....again and again and again. That is what infants do....throw tantrums and shout "NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO your a meanie and a doodie head" with eyes smashed shut and fingers in ears while thinking they're winning a debate.
LMFAHS!

At some point, this amount of disagreement does nothing but push us all down collectively to a level that is enough evidence that none of us are worthy of choosing what is right and good for the collective of the human race, versus what is wrong and should be avoidable.

That says more for those of us who supposedly represent the authority than it does for citizens reacting to these crimes, but it still goes for all of us.

There is so much blindness in this thread on every side, and that does not exclude my own. Ultimately we're all swayed by our personal experiences. The sum of all arguments is nearly impossible to calculate, but it's there.
I don't care much for "law" as it's practiced today, and there is plenty of evidence online to support any orderly or bigoted perspective if you care to weigh it that subjectively, but pertaining to videos such as these, here is what you cannot deny regardless of your position:

Minorities will always have the lesser voice, and be exploited, intentionally or unintentionally, by the authority.

Around the world, at all times, though perhaps more now than the last few decades, the majority of government authority is responding to the fear that has been shown prevalently in media and culture for at least a generation.

The proper solution for all of our kind is a way for authoritative powers to understand that when there is a diplomatic minority large enough to warrant force as a response, force is no longer the appropriate answer. Otherwise, at this point, you have to allow voice to this community or you are a verifiable dictatorship/tyrant/oppressor or despot, and no longer the best representation of your collective people.

In the end, the discussions that all forums ultimately fall into is one that simply tries to snuff the other out. Lantern53 is a a verifiable, uneducated menace, ass, and an example of the ignorance that is readily welcomed by an all-to-eager agency whose present desire is to employ thugs more than representatives of the people.

However we, collectively, need that voice. We need to know who in our society has such widely disparate views in order to regulate and balance our own perspectives. It is healthy to encounter perspectives that are not your own, and it's up to everyone and each individual to temperate our reactions, despite how offensive they might be. In that sense, people such as Lantern, BobKnight, Shiny, Choggie, and all the other "assholes" who've sifted through the sift, possess a little more bravery than most of us. (Or they're trolls, but in communities such as the sift, they're more likely just angry people with a drastically alternate perspective from the majority).

The next time you encounter someone like Lantern, just take their perspective and defeat them with logic and reason. If you don't have the knowledge to do so, research factual evidence to do it. If you cannot find factual evidence to do so, you may well be in the wrong.

I have; everyone has. It just comes down to trying to shout into submission those with different views - or - converting them to an understanding perspective with reason and evidence. It's not a one-side versus the other, either. It must go back and forth to a certain extent, because that is how you reach mutual understanding.

If all else fails, y'know, find out their address and bring a tire-iron.

I wonder how many of you had to take a test to get hired, a test that 200-300 people took, then took the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality inventory test, and to score in the top ten, then to be interviewed by a sociologist or psychotherapist, then a psychiatrist, then interviewed by the head of the organization and two other representatives of the local governing authority?

That's what I thought.

newtboysays...

Minnesota. Thank you. Finally. Good, I won't feel like I'm missing too much avoiding it.
I took a 'test' that tens of thousands took, and scored well above the 98th percentile. It wasn't a silly 'personality test' either, but a multi-phasic knowledge test. Thank you very much.
Personality tests are simple to lie on and pass unless you are a moron and stupidly state you want to be a cop so you can get away with crimes and bully others. 'Passing' one is nothing to feel superior about, especially when there's no reference showing what they want in a personality, maybe they're simply looking for stupid thugs that are team players and bullies.
All cops take those tests. We can see the quality of people that 'pass' those tests. I notice you didn't mention the IQ test you had to 'fail' in order to 'pass'. LOL!
