RT: The first U.S. air strike on Libya was actually carried out 25 years ago during the Reagan administration - and has since been followed by a number of other U.S.-led military campaigns. And now with Obama's involvement in Libya, it seems that conflict and the American Presidency, once again, go hand-in-hand. RT's Kristine Frazao looks back at a controversial timeline...

Just pointing out...this attack on Libya was actually timed to the minute when the news programs turned on for the night. They also had all their crews ready for it in the region, had to fly there and get stuff ready before hand. It was the first attack scheduled for prime time...kinda like Monday Night Football.

Just pointing out that you are full of complete shit. Oh.. I mean, that is. unless you have actual evidence, not just jack ass thoughts behind your delusion.

Military Industrial Complex requires something to spend the budget on or the economy suffers.

having said that...

if you want to be the hippy that says it's ok to let a ruthless dictator outsource foreign mercenaries to basically genocide whole towns of men women and children and then cheer over the victory... go... right... ahead...

The first US bombardment of Libya actually happened in 1804 under President Jefferson, during the Battle of Derne. Of course we didn't bomb from planes, we bombed from ships.

Fuck yeah! 200 years of kicking Libyan ass! We're on a roll! We can't roll over for those Barbary pirates now!>> ^Ariane:

I was rather ignorant on the conditions of the Barbary war. Some nice wiki material on it:

""Jefferson sent a small force to the area to protect American ships and citizens against potential aggression, but insisted that he was 'unauthorized by the Constitution, without the sanction of Congress, to go beyond the line of defense.'"

Tee hee.

One has to note that the comparisons between the different military campaigns is a tad far-fetched.
I would for example not necessarily classify the military escalation in Libya and Yugoslavia as American, but rather as European or NATO-initiated in nature (a fine but distinct difference since the overall chain of command and the distribution of the "spoils of war" is another).
One might also argue that Gaddafi probably pretty much ran himself into the ground on this one.

None-the-less, the perspective from someone not part of this military union (Russia, China, the League of Arab States, etc.) must be understandably dire at this point with basically the entire region toppling into turmoil.

There's still Yemen on the lists of potential powder-kegs...

Russia today, trying so hard to be like FOX

If it doesn't pander to Democrats it must be evil.

Actually what they're saying does "pander" to me. My problem with RT stems from the seeming fact that all their vitriol is reserved for the US, while any Russian news is unabashedly pro-Russia. To put it another way, they don't think their shit stinks.

1:40 "with president Obama running on an anti-war platform, he has spent most of his presidency trying to end the wars started by his predecessor"

How can someone that misinformed keep a job at a news network? Obama ran on a platform of escalating the war in Afghanistan, while drawing down the war in Iraq. Which he did. I would have liked it if there had been a peace candidate in the last election, but sadly there wasn't.

Isn't it obvious? The presidents may change, but the stakeholders are still the same. How can anyone (especially Americans) actually believe a new president makes a big difference. If the government were a product I would say we're not even close to a final RC. Not even close. So why do we hold them to such low standards? Because they're the fucking government and we don't have control. For the people? Maybe. By the people? No. Unless by people you mean a minority of self interested tools.

I have to agree to disagree, with a bit of what @BoneRemake said. It's a ridiculous notion this time around as we weren't specifically the "spark" that lit the fire. But, on the other hand as in Reagan's case it's almost true. Same with Desert Storm and VERY true for our current intrusion into Iraq. Kosovo and the current Libya are much more of an international effort; Desert Storm was as well.

Wow that's some hate right there...look it up yourself I'm not going to re-research stuff for an asshole.
