AlJazeera In Redneck Country (HILARIOUS & SAD)

As the US presidential campaign enters its final weeks, both the Republican and Democratic candidates are hitting the swing states.

But misconceptions and rumours abound and many voters have their facts about the candidates all wrong. Some believe that Democrat Barack Obama is a Muslim, for instance.

Casey Kauffman talked to some Republican supporters after a rally by Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, in Ohio.
MrConradssays...

Getting information about a presidential candidate in this day and age is like playing the game telephone; only in this case it's being played by 300 million people. It's bad enough when the oringinal message is true and gets distorted, but when the orginal message is false to begin with, like say if it's coming from fox or any other major network for that matter, and then gets passed down and distorted... well that's when you get people saying things like this.
just an uneducated observation though...

Trancecoachsays...

It's this type of provincial small-mindedness that the Republicans are COUNTING ON.

And this is why I support the use of an Entrance Exam for ALL VOTERS, which include questions about, for example, the aproximate age of the planet and other basic facts of contemporary intelligence.

(This country is doomed if these people are in the majority.)

Mixastersays...

I would like to preface this comment with the fact that I am an Ohio native and have lived most of my life in Ohio and still do.

Why is it every time the media visits Ohio they find the mot idiotic people they can find and give them a mic? Granted there are a LOT of backwards, unthinking, uninformed people in this state, but I would hope that Sifters will realize, just as anywhere, there also exists the opposite.

anyprophetsays...

It's not like they had to look hard for the backwards and ignorant people this time around. They all gathered in one convenient location.

edit: And you guys weren't as bad as the people in WV they interviewed during the Democratic primary.

the ignorance is mind-blowing.
the last time i checked,13% of americans believed Obama to be muslim,
lets consider for a moment that 12.5% of america's population are fundamentalist, evangelical christians...
coincidence?
these are the very "base" that we see political pundits espousing in the corporate media.
these are our neighbors, and it saddens me to no end how badly they are being used.
it is one thing to be informed, know the facts and disagree with obama's position.
it is quite another to STILL believe obama is muslim.
that he was sworn in on the quran.
that he refuses to say the pledge of allegiance.
the list goes on,all meant to instill fear, apprehension and suspicion,
and ALL of these have been debunked, and proven to be false.
yet here we are, with 13% of our citizenry STILL buying into the propaganda.
"a democracy can not thrive, nor flourish, without an informed citizenry".
Thomas Jefferson

it is not only a right to vote, but a duty, and part of that duty is active participation in the electoral process.
i would also add that part of that participation should include becoming informed.while i find the republican exploitation of evangelicals reprehensible,i find people like this just as culpable.
ignorance is curable....stupid is not.
shame on these people...is it laziness..or just irresponsibility?
someone please enlighten me on this point, because while i can understand someone having faith in the written word,it is beyond me how people like this can continue to be so ignorant when facts are so available.
are they choosing ignorance?willfully ignorant?
someone please help me understand why a person would do that, its beyond reason.

God, I hope so. There would be a big mess to clean up, but it would be so worth it.

As a resident and native to Ohio I can verify that these people are not the majority. There may be a lot of them and they may be louder than everyone else, but they're still not the majority.

ShakeyMcBonessays...

I didn't actually watch this video. I listened to it with my head buried in my hands. I'm sure I'm not the only once who is concerned for Obama's safety. When someone is driven by this kind of irrational fear and hatred, who knows what they'll do?

Would your exam include a spelling test as well? Because I think you just disenfranchised yourself.

I may not agree with these people's beliefs or viewpoints, but they have just as much right to vote as you or I do. It doesn't matter that they aren't voting for rational reasons. There are people who are voting for Obama strictly because they identify themselves as Democrats and always vote along party lines. There are people who will vote for Obama because they think McCain is too old. There are people who would have voted for Hillary just because she's female. I'd wager those same people are fairly educated and could pass your polling exam, but they still wouldn't vote as rationally or logically as you'd like. That's the beauty of your vote--you can vote for whoever you like for whatever reason you like.

Now, passing an intelligence test in order to run for office... that's something I could get behind.

Obama winning, these people, and explosions are definitely in the future. The States will have to pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan, the troops will be needed back at home. Nothing scares me more than people that stupid who "know" they're right.

I love the old duck that makes the comment that she's scared of obama and his wife, because thay might be hiding that they're "anti white"...

Fucking loved it!

It's a beatiful spin. You're not saying that you're anti black, just that you dont want a president that is anti white...

I have a channel listing on my Sat TV that goes in order of respectability I have towards that news organization.

1. Al Jazeera
2. Euronews
3. BBC World
4. CNN
5. Press TV
6. Russia Today

Al Jazeera is great because 90% of their stories is investigative journalism about issues you didn't know were happening.

The USA IS NOT A CHRISTIAN NATION. The country was founded on a belief that religious expression OF ANY SORT should be free... and it SHOULD NOT BE PART OF POLITICS.

Stop trying to force YOUR beliefs into the whitehouse you narrow minded, fearful people.

I do think we need a test before voting, but I also like the idea of a spelling test:

"How do you spell assassinate? And if you can't spell it, you can't do it.

Obama '08."

I had no idea Hussein Obama and his seventh wife hate white people, think we're trash, and want to set Bill Ayers as the Secretary of Terrorism so we can abort babies and build mosques upon the graves of our Forefathers.

I must be out of the loop.

Nah, they'll be distracted by the next Intern-blowjob scandal all over Faux News. It's pretty obvious that Clinton's presidency was better for the economy than either Bush. Inflation-adjusted median wages have been shrinking under Bush. Inflation is the highest it's ever been since Reagan. Tax cuts for the wealthy rather than the poor harmed the economy by decreasing the MPC and reducing the percentage of people who have access to the basic things that are necessary to work at peak efficiency (healthy food, preventative healthcare, books/computers and a good education).
