The bowline is a good knot, but it can capsize. Just pull the standing part and the bitter end to see.

I've never heard a truckie's hitch called a sheepshank -- it is half a sheepshank, but it's not what most people mean by sheepshank.

Upvote for fiddlestring knot.

Best description I've heard for a Bowlan knot was from a captain of a scallop boat out of Port Canaveral. He said "...it won't come loose and you can get it loose."

Side note, I did find a spelling of boling listed as archaic.
