Terrible. Every time they reinvent the iconic classic appearance of a superhero, it always ends with them going back to the original. I suspect WW will be her old self in a couple years. They've modified Spidey's costume a number of times, and I've always thought the black costume was awesome, but in the end he's always reverted back to the red and blue.
@blankfist, I guess I have to ask, what do you think is terrible about the new outfit? I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just curious about why you think the old costume is superior.
^I suppose there are a couple reasons. First, for nostalgia's sake. Second, I think there's something to be said about her scantily clad voluptuous figure in the knee-high hooker boots. Sexist?
Third, she's an Amazonian, and the new drawing of her is petite and less curvy. You can keep that figure for someone on the Teen Titans, because WW is a full figured woman.
Fourth, she looks too sophisticated. And she's wearing a jacket. And she's wearing leotards with stirrups. And a choker. A fucking choker.
Fifth, before WW most comic heroines were either sidekicks or girlfriends or damsels in distress. She entered the scene as a symbol of feminist power which shattered conventional thinking. The new character seems to be more interested in her Dolce & Gabbana fingerless gloves than shattering gender roles.
1. I had a feeling nostalgia might be one reason. I guess I'm more of an iconoclast, but then I never have been really into comics in the first place.
2. Her old, scantily-clad outfit is certainly appealing to the eye, but it just seems less practical for crime fighting. Wouldn't her tits always be on the verge of popping out when the action got intense?
3. If she is less curvy, it ain't by much. Her boobs are still at least a D-cup, maybe even DD-cup. That counts as curves to me. I'll concede that her hips have slightly less curve, but not by much. IMO she hardly looks like an adolescent Teen Titan. She's all woman to me, brother.
4. I like the more sophisticated look. Like I said, it makes her look more like a real superhero and less like a bimbo walking around the Playboy mansion. But to each his own. (Though I'll admit, in this image she still looks pretty badass.) And a choker bothers you, but a tiara doesn't? Oh well, to each his own.
5. She still looks every bit like a symbol of feminist empowerment to me, actually even more so. As mentioned earlier, she looks more like a real superhero and less like this.
You may be right - they may change her back because of rabid fanboys. Still, I have to hand it to J. Michael Straczynski for being willing to try something new.
Look how strong WW looks in the old costume. Now look at the new costume and see how feminine she looks. Look at the calves. Look at the thighs. Fap fap fap. Now look back at me. I'm on a horse.
I guess if they changed her look into something I felt I hadn't seen before, then I'd be cool with it, but it looks like a retread of a late 90s comic heroine that failed. I've probably bought four WW comics in my entire life, so I really have little cause to complain.
Wonder Woman looks fine as she is. The third one's by the same artist as the redesign, tell me she doesn't look ten times as awesome.
I don't know what it is with Jim Lee, does he actually do any work any more, or does he just creep around ruining iconic costumes? He even managed to screw up Invincible for about two years, just by doing one guest cover.
A 'modern sensibility' means drawing Wonder Woman as a 90s teenager? The jacket is retarded. The choker is retarded. She's somehow acquired new unique one-of-a-kind magic bracers. What about a pair of slacks says 'amazon princess'?
What it boils down to is, there is nothing unique or striking about that new costume. It will never produce a single iconic image.
I am on the internet, making an angry post about comic books.
the choker doesn't bother me, but i agree, she is less curvy and she looks like some 90's heroine and totally forgettable.
i'm not offended by her getting a little update, but she looks like a skinny depressed teenager. also, skinny jeans are stupid. women don't wear skinny jeans. and super heroes don't dress for fads.
i'm a tank girl kinda girl anyway, WW is a vixen heroine for boys, not for girls. sooo pffft.

^So I take it you're not in my camp?
Those are great images, btw, though I think a miniskirt and bustier might provide little protection from the cold in this one.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
I like the new look- though there is more than a nod to Anime - she looks like a Final Fantasy character.
The old costume made Lynda Carter look like she was wearing over the naval, control top granny panties, IMHO.
