The Death of an Icon - George Carlin 1937 - 2008

George Carlin, and to use what he would've wanted, has fucking died today. He has not "passed away", he is dead. Aged 71, he died of heart failure this afternoon at 5:55 pm.

Let's all remember him as the great comedic performer, philospher and speaker of not only the truth, but also some of those things regular folks just didn't want to hear.

I know I'm going to miss him, I think I'm going to have to crack open Napalm & Silly Putty this week.

And right now I'm going to watch, appropriately, http://www.videosift.com/video/George-Carlin-Life-is-Worth-Losing-1

I've just used up both my promotes for George. There is still a massive Carlin archive here, use your promotes, lets keep this guy on the front page all day.

damn - always hard to lose a master. My first real appreciation of the capability of language was thanks to Carlin. 70+ years is a good long time, especially compared to other inspired comedians. Shit. Piss. Fuck. Cunt. Cocksucker. Motherfucker. Tits.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! My girl (karkarlee) and I were just watching all of his stuff the other day, and then this happens! What next! First Johnny Cash, now George Carlin, all my idols are dying off!! Fuck you humanity! Why can't the people who earn my respect live forever!

When I was 9 yrs old, I played the Class Clown album over and over, until I learned how to use foul language properly....Take care George-you made your indelible mark, burned into many a consciousness....Cheers!

I'm glad to see that some other people feel this way. His vidoes never really got great responses here. Good but not great. (although i'm sure they will now)

George Carlin was the only person I ever thought of as being my hero. My parents started me on him before I could speak. I agree with you Jonny, I appreciate language the way I do because of his influence.

Anyway, he's with Joe Pesci and the Big Electron now. I'm not going to let it get to me.

Fuck the FCC.

A great, great comedian.

He has ceased to be, bereft of life, he rests in peace, he has kicked the bucket, hopped the twig, bit the dust, snuffed it, breathed his last, and gone to meet the Great Head of Light Entertainment in the sky, and I guess that we're all thinking how sad it is that a man of such talent, such capability and kindness, of such intelligence should now be so suddenly spirited away at the age of seventy-one, before he'd achieved many of the things of which he was capable, and before he'd had enough fun.
(Completely stolen from http://www.geocities.com/fang_club/chapman_memorial.html, but applicable here as well)

He will be missed, like Mitch Hedberg and Bill Hicks.
