other than that i think the collectives are great fun and add another dimension to sifting fun. there's room for many more categories in the future. however, the sheer number of collectives means it's often hard to spread your posts about if you are a member of lots of collectives.

You can see why the url needs to be something normal. Sure get as nutz and crazy as you want with the Collective name, but it is more useful to have a normal domain name. Like space.videosift or darwin.videosift instead of eia. Or whatever "off" stands for. It can never be changed for those who haven't made a collective yet.

Yeah, i was definitely on the fence for mine. I was considering fuhgeddabouddit.videosift.com, but thought that was too far. I didn't want to put italian.videosift.com because that seems too much like it's for italian language...

Waters for sure.... although I can only handle so much divine, and the jury is still out on whether or not Pink Flamingos is actually art.

@joedirt - I put some careful thought into choosing off.videosift.com but figured it's perfect for 1. honouring one of the collective's main sources of inspriation and 2. being sufficiently irreverent and off-kilter to make you go "huh?" the way the best gags from the related genre do before making you fall apart with laughter if it's your sort of thing.

A "2b" reason (again with the off-kilter) is the unspoken concern that someone who owns every single DVD in the set will still face the specter of finding their beloved clips (the best free advertising anyone hoping to sell more of those DVD sets can hope to have!) "off"-line. So it's both black humour and... dark humour.

So as such, I considered it to be perfect. And I think we actually CAN change the 'subdomain' if we so desire, so I felt like I had nothing to lose. Besides, mgandfas.videosift.com would just be weird.

doh.videosift.com would make sense to me, or groening or some recongizable word. I don't know what "off" means. I never saw the word off (as in on) but rather O.F.F.

I've seen it all the time in alt.tv.simpsons - Call me an old grognard if you want.

Besides, to be truly correct, we'd need the apostrophe in d'oh. "SNUH" may be one option, although I wonder if everyone would get the reference?
