On tagging videos - Not, On, Tagging, Videos

Can we please begin tagging videos properly? I won't single anyone out, but, when, I, see, a, video, tagged, like, this, it, drives, me, mad.

Tags are not only to grab attention and offer general descriptions of the videos - they're also used for searches.

I myself am guilty of not tagging properly. The point is let's try to clear that up.

*quality.

I'm completely OCD about tags. (No surprise to most of you.) Bad tags not only lead to difficult searches, but they make siftbot's dupe detection damn near impossible when you're submitting a video. Also, it's hard to fix a dead video when you use a vague title and shitty tags.

Use the maximum space allowed for tags, and don't separate every word with a comma. Shit like: pink, floyd, dark, side, of, the, moon, us, and, them isn't helpful at all, unless you really want to do a tag search for of, and or the. Just do pink floyd, dark side of the moon, us and them. For ALL your videos. If it ain't got Pink Floyd, then it ain't shit.

Oh alright, Weekend At Bernie's is also acceptable.

There's a really good video on the sift somewhere. It's an animated song about an old man and a willow tree. Go ahead, try and find it. I dare you.

In fact, I'll give the first person who posts it to my profile a FREE * PROMOTE. (except the original poster that is)

btw, just to throw it in there, but when you submit a video if you hover over the tags dialog bar, you can a tooltip telling you "Comma (,) separated list of descriptive words "funny,cat..." 2 characters minimum"

So, to summarise, if you want to standardise the tagging, thats fine, but if you follow the tooltip you, add, commas.

maybe we can change how you submit tags so prevent this from being a problem.

I like to puff my chest up about the fact I started writing better tags a bout 2-3 weeks ago. In defense of others as I myself, I just didn't clue into the fact, I figured out how the tag system and search function work together and it dawned on me my tags where shyte

props to kronosposidon and throbbin

IMHO, tags shouldn't be used to describe the video. Use them for hypertext searches and nothing else.

we already have channels, although the channel stuff is spotty. If you want to search for "funny" use the channel, don't bother typing "funny" "wtf" "car crash" in the tag.

Each term should be comma-separated, not necessarily each word.

"Sarah" and "Palin" should not have a comma between them; "Sarah Palin" is one term.
