Default CSS Competition
Some of our more adventurous users have already started cranking out custom CSS files for their collectives, and they look great. We would like to take it a step further however, and to do that we are having a bit of a competition. The basic concept of the competition is that we realize that we have a lot of highly talented and creative Internet professionals on the site and would like to see how you would structure the default CSS for our collectives. The only conditions are as follows.
1. The color scheme must incorporate the iconic videosift blue. (hex value: 74C1E7)
2. Designs must be received by midnight EST on monday march 5th, which is 2 weeks from now. Please send your css file as an attachment to Videosift@gmail.com
Dag, Lucky, and I will be choosing the top three and implementing them on our own personal collectives in order to give them a showcase, and from there we will let the community vote, probably in another Sift Talk thread. If you have any questions please feel free to post them below.

We are still debating prizes, but it will most likely be a link off of our people page or a link on the right under videosift friends & partners, as well as the hubris of knowing that thousands of people a day are seeing your sweet skillz.
I'm clueless how to use the custom goodies, could someone else design one for a founder?
With a credit posted on the front page to the designer, they would enjoy whatever success it has.
edit: That would be after this contest though I would imagine.
well the winner of this competition will become the default css for all other collectives that don't have one specified. So you would wind up with the competition winners design if you hadn't implemented your own. As for getting someone to make you one, well I suppose this would be a good place to ask .
Damn that pesky CSS.
What are the odds of me being able to learn it in 2 weeks?
hmmmmmmm *wheels start spinning*
luckily, i have a few days off coming up soon! i've been so busy up until the 1st anniv launch that i'm finally able to get back into sifting!!! this shall prove rather interesting!! red with black polka dots anyone!??!!? NOT!!
hmmmmmmmm, too!
Curious about the table in the intro html. That's gonna make it much less fluid, css-wise. Any way to get rid of that in the html?
I think MLX and PM are tied right now. Ya tak dumayo.
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
I'm going to unsticky this for now. James please re-sticky when we have an update.
update soon, james!!!
[...Temporarily re-stickying for default CSS file update...]
At the request of a veteran member, I've slightly changed the formatting of the member listing page and made it customizable with some new CSS styles. The changes are in the updated default CSS file at http://www.videosift.com/css/collective.css so please re-download/update as necessary.
Re-sticky this.
Also, you can ad the "web developer" Firefox extension which let's you edit the CSS interactively and easily.

Good point. Just be sure you actually start by editing the default CSS file. Some collectives (e.g., mine) may appear to be using the default scheme but are actually using custom files.
Sorry, to be more clear, with the Web Developer extension, you can go to your collective and Edit CSS and a sidebar allows interactive editing with real-time results. When you are done tweaking, you click the save button, and then upload on the Colleective CSS field.
Ah, you're talking only about collective owners editing their own CSS, it seems. I was speaking in general terms about everyone participating in the competition.
How many of you are considering taking part in this? Has anyone yet to begin?
*raises hand* i'm going to take part in this! i'm not sure how well i will do, but i am going to try and whip something together!
Ah, that default file will let me actually do some edits when I get around to it - hurray!
I've picked a background color. That's really all I wanted to do. Me tinkering with anything else would be dangerous at this point.
I'm currently attempting it. Cheers for that info joedirt, gonna give that extension a go.
I'm in.
Count me in too...and I second what MLX said somewhere else (I think!): the table formatted 'intro' (containing the title/avatar/stats) makes it tough to make major layout changes. Is it one CSS submission per Sifter?
