New ruby member @ponceleon has decided to claim the rights to the channel that came with the shiny ruby. The proposed channel is *undead and is described by ponceleon as follows:
For all your contagion, blood virus, rage zombies, living dead, lich kings and queens, mummy, vampire, banshee, ghost, and everything else that is moving and probably shouldn't be!
Vote whether or not this channel should be activated.

That's a very good point. Maybe it should have a different subdomain. Maybe zombie?

Zombie doesn't encompass all of undead, though.

Just a thought for the vague future, maybe commands such as dead, notdead, long, brief, promote, quality, etc should have a different invocation character (*) than channels to help avoid the overlap. If we used +/-, we could remove videos from individual channels, too (+sports/-sports).

I was going to do a separate ST post but I'll lay it out here. I note that sometimes I do want to click on a channel to see what else is there.
When I click Geek I get all sorts of things when mostly I want to see tech/science stuff, not some bloke reenacting FF7 in his bedroom, for example.

So if we have this new Undead channel when there is already Horrowshow why can't we have a tech/computers channel to separate that considerable number of videos from those exhibiting so-called "geekiness"?

Put it to a poll after this one. If it passes it can happen.>> ^Deano:

At first I'm all "that sarcastic bastard" and then I'm all - "ohhh - he must be serious". Thanks sarcasm checkbox! (thumbs up)>> ^blankfist:
Excellent! More channels!

Not sarcastic at all. I like to be supportive of channels, because I know people take creating them very seriously on here.

Again thank goodness for the checkbox!>> ^blankfist:

Actually I will counter that something can be undead and not horrorshow: case in point the very video that gave me the idea was the Zombie bullying PSA. I feel it is comedy and zombie oriented, but not necessarily horror-inducing. I mean yes, zombies can be considered part of the horror genre, but I would say that many channels have sub-categories that are specific enough to stand on their own.

For example, there are videos of zombie-parasites that I think would be fun to put into this channel as well.

As for the whole argument that this will cause confusion between 'dead and 'notdead, I get it, but really people who are declare videos dead and not dead are pretty smart and I don't expect a sudden epidemic (pun intended) of misused *undead tags. I mean, if it becomes a problem sure nuke it, but I doubt it would...

But seriously...

There's precedent for one channel entirely incorporating another channel, like * Asia : * Japan, or * Livemusic : * Music, so the dearth of non-horror zombie vids isn't the objection -- there could be none at all, and it would still fit the form of the Sift.

The objection would be that this channel would be for people who specifically want Dawn/Shaun of the Dead-type horror and not Jason/Freddie-type-horror. That seems kinda narrow group to me -- a subdivision of a movie genre, like adding a * freeformjazz channel in addition to * jazz.

To me, the channels list is getting a little silly already, with most new channels not solving any search problems that tags don't already handle.

Undeath? That doesn't even sound correct though, and it isn't even a word.
Sure it's a possible compromise, but it's not a great one by any means.

I'm not much into zombie movies but even I've heard "undeath" used in them as a descriptor of their state of being. Oddly enough, "undeath" and "unlife" seem to be interchangeable even though they appear to be antonyms.

edit: Wizards of the Coast likes "undeath", too.
