I said that protecting your right to not self incriminate requires people doing things like this, legally and reasonably. Quite a different thing from the straw man red herring you bring up, that support for this single action is equitable to saying 'anything legal is good' and 'anything illegal is bad' EDIT: or that if you think this specific kind of thing is 'good', you support fighting "every single battle I possibly can". If people like him didn't do things like this, the remaining states wouldn't need to adopt any restrictions, because they'll simply implement those restrictions without adopting them, as the cops in this instance (illegally) did. Again, IF he is on the watch list, it's just another example of why the watch list is useless, because anyone the police or fed or technician doesn't LIKE ends up on it, not suspected terrorists. I asked you if you had evidence of your claims, you ignored that query, so I logically assumed you don't. and if using a word's technical meaning is denigrating, that's the denigrateds' problem IMO. They should own it, there's nothing wrong with it. But one must first try. What Alex is trying to get across here is that you don't have to start from your fallback plan and stick to that.

One also has to remember that Alex is second generation immigrant, there is tremendous pressure on that gen as they are the first to have a full set of new opportunities. Unlike many bands, Rush members were not flunking grades, they are pretty intelligent, parents could see them becoming lawyers, doctors etc. Rock and roll as a career was then still new one.

But first you have to try, take risks and if it doesn't work, go to your second plan. If you are a parent, support that first try. Art is what drives mankind forward, it IS the hardest to succeed in it. That is the lesson you need to get across: "most likely, it's not gonna happen so be prepared for plan B". A lot of parents just don't want to see that plan A fail , which is going to happen if you don't let them even try.

And you are right on that number, it's very very close to reality. about 1 in 100 can get a work in music industry as a technician etc. blue collar job. About 1 in 1000 will get work as an artist. But that blue collar work, it's something special.. You learn to be a polymath and fast problem solver, you learn how to organize, how to delegate, how to communicate with anyone, how to get things done with the tools you have available. Technicians that have worked behind the stage are really talented and sought after.. They get things done, period.

capitalism only really functions well (with regulation) in a world where resources are limited and a lot of manpower is needed to get things done. Thanks to technology, it's only a matter of time before resources are so easy to come by and manufacture into needed things that the supply and demand model will be obsolete.

I suspect that within 100 years, if not sooner, manual labor will be a thing of the past...unless you're an artist or something. Robots will be able to do virtually everything..and better than humans are capable of.

The only people who will still need to have jobs are engineers and maybe technicians, but even then, eventually robots will be able to repair themselves so maybe not even technicians will be needed. Hell, given enough time, nurses and many health care jobs won't be needed anymore because basic healthcare could be delegated to robots.

It's just a matter of time. We're already starting to see the effects of automation in the workforce, we just don't need as many people to get things done. Hell even technical jobs aren't safe because as computers get better and better, They'll be able to analyze certain things better than humans.

The question just becomes what do you do about it? A whole new economic model will be needed. Because we'll eventually be living in the world where unless you're in the academic top tier, you're just not going to be needed in the workforce. At the same time, again, because of technology, we're going to have the ability to feed and clothe AND shelter you for a minimal amount of effort so the prospect of being able to being born, living, and dying without ever NEEDING to work is a real possibility in the not so distant future.

Isn't that what you would call...a utopia? You want freedom? there it is. You'll be able to spend your time doing what you WANT to do instead of what you HAVE to do just to survive. I suspect at some point, there will have to be SOME procreation laws put into place to keep the population growth in check. But hell, even that won't be so bad once we have the ability to colonize other planets.

People will still work, they'll just do it because they want to do it, but they'll be jobs where they're not a necessity or anything. even in an age where a replicator can make all your food, people will still want to cook, or do other artisan style jobs.

But hey, we'll still need defense, gotta blow up or deflect any stray asteroid that comes near us. or just send a bunch of robots up to mine the rock to smitherines so we can use the resources to build our mighty space fleet and our other grand works That Dyson Sphere won't build itself after all

Finland, my previous profession for many years was touring as audio technician and a roadie so i've connected different electrical sockets in my time. Schuko is by far the best solution for general single phase 220V systems (multiphases in the world are far better standardized anyway and they are equally brilliant..).

Indeed, and any number of scenarios may play out that could render a future variant of a "terminator" paradigm far from unimaginable. The tech you see in a motion picture today (should you care to use the most obvious rule-of-thumb) has been tried and tested, implemented and reviewed...But we won't see the meat of it until the military or other similar proprietary goons have declared it "unclassified."
