McCain defending Obama 2008

newtboy says...

Yep...that seems like a bit of 'please don't throw me in that briar patch, Br'er Fox.' imo. If he could get banned for outrageously disgusting, intentionally provocative, unpatriotic, but technically allowed comments, it seems it would verify to him that liberals (which he believes we all are here) are all poised to censor and silence any voice that disagrees.
I prefer to allow the ugliness of the right to show itself publicly, hiding it does nothing to oppose it and only let's it fester, hidden safely in the dark.

It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.
I prefer the former to the latter two options.

The problem is, much of that awful stuff contradicts the other awful stuff and none of it is consistent. If he genuinely believes it all, there's something seriously wrong. The only belief I can pin down is that belief is fluid and constantly changing, and anything goes if it supports the cause/talking points of the day.

It’s funny that, aside from bob himself, no one has proposed (or even mentioned prior to this thread) banning him.

Personally, I think he’d love to be banned. It would fit his martyr complex perfectly.

I agree with you here. I don’t think he’s a troll; I think he genuinely believes the awful stuff he says.

So something good came from people purchasing crap that had to be patched non-stop beyond the next 2 versions of crap. Interesting.

Seriously, if I pay someone to cook a meal, that doesn't make me a chef.

Ugh, when I was a kid in AZ, I stepped in an old prairie dog hole and fell into a big patch of prickly pears. I got covered in the things from mid chest to ankle. They hurt sooo bad coming out.

Reminds me of falling off a bike into prickly pear cactus. They go deep too, but at least thorns usually don't splinter more on the way out.
Ouch.

Vox: How faster computers gave us Meltdown and Spectre

ChaosEngine says...

Just for a little context... so far spectre and meltdown are proof of concept only. No-one has actually found any evidence of a real breach. Still pretty scary though.

That said, most people are probably still more at risk of standard human vector attacks than either of these.

So standard security advice applies. Make your passwords long.
"ThisIsMyReallyLongPasswordThatNooneWillGuess" is far better than "p4$$W0rd". Use a password manager so that each site you visit has a different, unique (and long) password.

And patch your devices.

Well as for the braking, bikes actually can't break as fast as a car often due to very tiny tire contact patches... breaking hard on a bike can be quite dangerous! My car can stop WAY faster than any motorcycle I've owned because with the car you can just slam on the brake and abs kicks in. and tons of tire contact. Also this is probably a go-pro or similar, so wide lens and everything looks way further than it would have appeared to the rider.

Predicting someone might turn left is impossible?!? Wow. Don't drive anywhere near me, please.
Also, sometimes a bike can brake better than a family car?! Unless you're comparing bikes with broken brakes to cars with high powered aftermarket disk brakes, that should be always.
It sure looks like a blinker at second 4-5, but I could tell he was turning by second 1-2.
Neither of them were blameless, imo.
