@eric3579 Apparently, Penn/Teller confirmed on twitter that she wasn't a plant. (This from an unrelated blog post, I don't know how to find the tweet itself). Also, every participant has to tell a "judge" backstage how the trick is done, to avoid any funny business (for instance, denying that Penn & Teller's explanation is correct, even if it is).

Sam and Jason have a new show of their own starting soon. This was announced before Jon's replacement was named, which means it must have been planned several months before Jon even made the subject public. This also explains why at least Jason (don't know about Sam) went on the record fairly early saying he was not interested in taking over TDS.

This also raises the issue that some people may want to host 'their' show, but not TDS, a show with a very specific tone/theme, and quite time-consuming at that. People only think of the prestige, but filling in after a guy with a big rep and who was is own producer might not be the most comfortable of things. Especially if like Jon you end up with the sum total of 1 side project in 16 years.

That doesn't mean the TDS staff may not have been talking backstage early on (I can imagine them seeing Colbert, then Stewart walking away, or starting to talk about it, and some thinking to themselves that maybe it's time for a change), but they probably decided what to do on their own, way before any decision for TDS was definitive.

Once you know how the system works, it's really easy to get in secured areas. Found out about it when for once i wasn't in the crew but as regular audience member, just didn't even think about it and went backstage to toilet.. Remembered half way, hey, i didn't have a pass. I'm an ex-roadie and few years went by as never being on a festival or concert without a backstage pass, it just became a habit (i rarely carried my pass in open anyway as it snags easily when climbing or carrying..). But i did/do look like a roadie, only black t-shirt, black jeans and black everything in my wardrobe (ask any stagehand how can they find their cloths in the dark without a maglite, they'll give you "the look"...).

A lot of it is about your demeanor, you don't act. Acting is pretending and you are spotted mile away. You belong there, you have a job to do: no one asks any questions. If you try to act like you are crew, you will fail. Also, crew members are sober while everyone else is hammered in the audience, so... Hammered crew members will be asked for passes everytime they enter, unless the persons actually do know each other (note, not everyone with a working pass is at the moment working, i was mostly pre/post-show techie so my free-time was the concert..)

She is quite good for a seven-year-old. She is far too good for this ridiculous production.

Family Feud is a show where two families try to guess the most popular answers to surveys. The family that piles up the most points goes on to this final round where two family members, individually, try to guess the most popular answers to five different survey questions. One family member answers while the other is isolated backstage. Then the other family member comes out and is asked the same survey questions and can't repeat the other family member's answers. The points you see are the percentage of people who gave that particular answer, and are also the number of points awarded for that answer. The goal is 200 points total.
