Extreme up-close photography of a leopard seal

Incredible... One of my friends worked for the British Antarctic Survey for a number of years and he was telling me about how he was once broadsided by a Leopard Seal while he was wading in the water at the shoreline holding a zodiac steady. He said the sheer power of these creatures is unbelievable. I've seen a couple myself and they are pretty intimidating animals. I would be scared out of my mind being in the water with one. They grow up to 12 feet long, weigh up to 1300 lbs and can swim as fast at 65 km/hr. They're very efficient predators!

It's great to see some shots of him with the seal. These things are huge and without the person tere for scale it's hard to understand quite how intimidating they are. Amazing the way it treated hime though. Incredible story and fantastic shots. I would love that job.

Very cool. I wonder if the seal was reacting to its own reflection in the camera's big glass dome.

Wow, good point - never thought of that. Certainly plausible, I'm sure that lens was very reflective.

At first the fashion model kept bringing me those 100 calories travel packs of Ritz crackers. Then she started opening them for me and putting them in my mouth. Even when I finally ate the crackers she wasn't satisfied. She would bring crackers, eat them herself and then vomit them back up while prodding at me.
