Rick Perry's hunting camp was named 'Niggerhead'

Classy.

I live in a small south Ga town and we have shit like that around here.

There is a bridge south of town goes over the Withlacoochee River and it's actually called "Nigger Bridge" it even has a historical plaque on it with "Nigger Bridge" engraved in brass on it.

2 years ago the town was going to bring it to a vote to remove the historical plaque and rename it, but the blacks actually petitioned to keep it. As it was historical, the name was used and there was no need in hiding it, that hiding historical racism only covers it up, that it should stay out as a reminder of our past.

So the county commisioners voted to keep it, and to this day you can ride out to it and see the sign and the historical plaque engraved on "Nigger Bridge" that overlooks the Withlacoochee river in this part of Ga.

And of course for those that don't know Withlacoochee turns into the Suwannee river

Man that wrong. But it was the family camp. Was it named by his father or grand father? That would put some distance from this shame. You could also say the apple does not fall from the tree. But then again he was a Democrat and did not switch until 1989.

Its sad to see a grown man tip-toe around speech in fear for his career and social standing.
Would this story really be any worse if he had just laid out all the facts, without stopping, and stuttering and then setteling for the "N word"?
Or would the story be less interesting if the news guy would just use the forbiden words that he is outing Perrys whole family for using?

"Voldemort". There. I said it. And nothing happened.

I have a topo map of a nearby upstate NY quad from the 1920 survey that features a town called Nigger Hill. It was a bit surprising to discover a few years ago and I've always wondered about the history of that location. Maybe I'll take a trip out there now that I'm living here again. It's only about half an hour away.

It's so ignorant that it is almost unbelievable. This guy is actually in politics and is exploring a presidential campaign. He is dumb enough to let some stupid family secret/joke linger around long enough for anyone outside his inner circle to find out about. Then again, your last name could be Weiner and you would not imagine that this person, a politician, would send pics of his wiener to young women. Then try to deny it.

Perry's response here: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/10/03/perrys-weekend-attention-wanted-or-unwanted/?hpt=po_bn2

Short of it, they are claiming that the claims are inaccurate. Basically saying that once they purchased the land they immediately painted over the offensive language. I guess the question is how much time and when exactly the painting-over happened. I'm not sure it will be simple to prove the timing one way or another...

That said, what isn't being contested is whether the Perrys were the ones to originally call it that, which it appears from the article they weren't.

Now, if it shows up on Google Maps with the word visible, maybe they will catch him in a lie...

Well hey. Listen, its private property and they can do what they want. Who's business is it what they do on their land they stole from the indigenous peoples?

But for real, a hunting ranch called 'N-head'.

Yep, fascist assholes.

It's been pointed out that you can find this sort of thing all over America, but the part I don't understand is why anyone, at any point in history, would name anything using that word? Or any racial slur, or words with a negative, hateful meaning behind them?

Unless if what you're naming is something you don't like, of course.

Cain doesn't need to stoop to this to win points, his appealing message and dynamic career are enough. Perry is all but a RINO.

Yeah, it was insensitive, but it wasn't worse than Governor Clinton commanding women in govt. jobs to suck his dick and if they refused, he fired them. THAT is far more vulgar and despicable and that enough of the country still elected such a scumbag is a pox on US.

The feminists on the left remained silent throughout Slick Willie's career, just like the rest of the left gives itself a free pass over its own blatant racism.

It's the Right's own fault for playing into the hands of the libmedia which hates them instead of hammering on the issues.
